Re: 60 and braced
Had my first adjustment just before Thanksgiving. Because the anxiety was still pretty bad my orthodontist gave me the option to try a new wires (16 niti). He told me if I couldn't deal with increased tightness, he'd step them back if needed. I'm managing, but I also think the SSRI is working. I haven't had a panic attack in almost a week The tightness still makes me anxious all the time, but I can talk myself down, don't feel like I want to call and get them off on a daily basis, and am starting to think about getting thru to the next adjustment, not just the next day. Progress! I too see the humor in many of the experiences compared to the kids! Humbling to be sure.

Are you in the greater Seattle area by any chance? I feel like your ortho is very patient.. if it were my current ortho and you acted like this, i am not sure he would be as patient...Gia wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 1:17 pm Had my first adjustment just before Thanksgiving. I am looking for a new ortho.. not with great success.. I called around couple more, one said he's not taking transfer cases. One said that I would need to pay all the exams fee, which comes out 300 or so bucks, which I am still going since i am kinda desperate
When I call them up, i say "I have been in braces for 7 months. But I am looking for a new orthodontist because my current ortho and I are having communication problems, and he has told me couple times that I should go elsewhere if I don't trust him"..
Not sure if my explaination is ok or not.. I am sure they are thinking "man, i don't want to take on a difficult patient"....maybe that's why i am having so much problem finding a new ortho

Sorry Wendydong, I'm on the east coast - NY/NJ area. I do feel fortunate with my orthodontist in dealing with this. I don't have any suggestions about what to explain. I would try not to disparage your current orthodontist - not saying you are - when you go for the consults. I suspect that doctors are cautious when patients want to change mid-treatment, and wonder why. Your explanation about communication seems straight forward.

Wendy - I know you want to be honest and forthright; but less is more. It's sending a red flag up when you say you're having communication problems with your current ortho. Perhaps instead tell them you desperately want to switch to Invisalign (because you do right??) and your current ortho does not do invisalign .Try to avoid telling them who you are currently seeing because it's a small world and they all talk. You got to get your foot in the door.

You are very welcome, Andy. For more laughs, see the thread "Confess Your Orthodontic Sins," and perhaps add your own confession to bring it back. Best of luck to you!
