Eric, I'm on your side about you wanting to do just what you want to do. If you don't want to go through the later phases of treatment to correct your bite, then by all means find an orthodontist who is willing to correct just the alignment and be happy with your straight teeth.
I did not have time to read every single word of all of the reponses to your previous post, I am certain someone told you this already ... your teeth will probably remain straighter after your treatment if you correct the bite as well as the alignment. But in the end, they're your teeth, it's your money, it's your choice.
I just posted a message seeking opinions about my refusal to wear elastics to close my bite for aesthetic reasons. So in a way I am doing exactly what you are planning to do, exert some control over you treatment. I have to be happy and live with the results.
My teeth are aligned now and I have actually had thoughts of stopping treatment ! But I'm going to continue, to fix my remaining issues as much as possible within the limits of what I will accept.
Straghtening teeth without correcting bite?

Btw, want to add here that I believe Gwen Stefani had her braces removed early, she got the cosmetic alignment she desired but did not proceed with the later phases of treatment. People DO do this.

eric,
This is actually something I am doing now. I started off for a perfect look and perfect teeth. However, middle way through, I found that my tongue was already constricted and irritated with face sunken due to the narrowed arch. Fortunately, I haven't got the two upper pre-molars extracted yet. Now, I am seeing another orthodontist who would attempt to expand my arch back, and who advised me to keep my overjet.
When I think back, I should've done at the very beginnig. that would have saved me $$$$ and so much suffering!

Hello all...this is my very first posting. I saw the original question and I was inclined to reply....
For years I had contemplated having my teeth straightened and only until recently have I decided to bite the dust and just do it. My main reason for doing it is nothing more than pure vanity!! I just longed for a nice set of straight white chiclets!
When I went for my ortho consult, my ortho admited that while I had some overcrowding in the front on both the top and bottom, the trick was how to do be able to do it without affecting my bite which was apparently quite. While I envisioned wearing ceramics, he blew up that idea by suggesting the best way to treat me was with Damons. So on Jan 4 '08 I was bracketed on the top and two weeks later on the bottom. I have my first adjustment tomorrow so I hope things are looking good so far....
