I have another question. I think my canine is on the side closer to my tongue rather than my lip (again, I'm not sure, but by looking in the mirror with a flashlight, that's what I've concluded). Will that effect how the tooth will grow and the pace at which it will grow?

Also, if it makes a difference, my canine is on the bottom row, not the top... if that helps at all

Can you post a pic up? Easiest way is to sign up to photo bucket upload and post the HTML link. It's easier with pics. I don't think you have anything to worry about though, these things take time. Your young so your bones will still be nice and squishy so there shouldn't be any issues with it coming through xxx

June 23 when I began taking pictures of my progess (22 days after exposure, 3 links, 4thvisible)
<a href="http://s86.photobucket.com/user/patbelm ... e.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k96/p ... g~original" border="0" alt=" photo 5FC7A4B7-DFC4-4720-A0D9-A2942B3A4AB2_zpsqoqlwxqe.jpg"/></a>

Today, exactly one month after exposure - July 1 (4 links, 5th is visible)
<a href="http://s86.photobucket.com/user/patbelm ... w.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k96/p ... g~original" border="0" alt=" photo 44527990-221A-41D9-AAEF-CD43605CFE20_zpsbb3hughw.jpg"/></a>

The side of the gums that I believe I can see my tooth. Not sure how it's positioned (was horizontal, possibly could have moved)
<a href="http://s86.photobucket.com/user/patbelm ... 8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k96/p ... g~original" border="0" alt=" photo 14DCD327-CD87-4807-9ECE-F47064BA23EB_zpsn2pvkw48.jpg"/></a>

Hopefully the links work and this makes my situation a bit more clear

Sorry for the double post, apparently I didn't know how to make photobucket links!

Mmm.... I personally don't know.

But I am guessing it doesn't really matter whether it is the bottom or top... What matters is the distance from where it needs to be.

I urge you to ask your Ortho a lot of questions during your adjustments because they usually have the best answers and know you better. How far apart are your adjustments?

Adjustments are 6 weeks apart

That's what I started with as well but after we noticed that my teeth were moving fast (To correct an overjet), we moved to 5 weeks.

Hoping we can stick to that with the canines and even go down to 4 weeks apart.

I don't know what your Ortho would suggest but if your teeth are moving fast ask to come back earlier. He/She will tell you if that's a good idea or not. The generally recommended time is 4 to 6 weeks because it takes 3 weeks for teeth cells to regenerate.

So if you want faster results that may work.

The problem is I don't know when to ask. What will make me think "I should probably go back in for my teeth because they're moving so fast?" Should I go by how quickly the links are coming through the gum? Because the first link took about 3 weeks.

I don't know if it will work but just be honest with her/him.

Tell them you want to speed up the process so can you have more frequent adjustments.

The problem is you are young so they might say no... For adults they tend to understand that you want a faster treatment period.

But just try. Especially if your teeth are moving fast I don't see a problem. So long as you stay within the recommended 4 to 6 weeks.

My next appointment is on July 28. I'll probably see what they have to say then and maybe bring up setting each appointment up closer together.

Asked my orthodontist if it really was impossible to get my canine out, again, he insisted that it is not possible and absolutely refuses to even try getting my canine out. Tbh I saw it coming but kinda wanted to cling to the small possibility of it :( . Anyways, now we're going with the original plan, which was to get the premolar in place of the canine. I really am not pleased with this as it will mean that the two sides of my mouth will have uneven sizes, but again I guess there's no other way.
Hi, I'm sorry to hear that your ortho didn't feel it was possible but maybe it's for the best anyway, I hope you get the best result. I'm in the opposite position where my ortho wants to go ahead but (after waiting 2 months for the NHS to agree to pay for a portion of the treatment) I am now completely put off with the whole impaction treatment thing and just want my canine out and an implant put in it's place (I'm 41 now). I just feel I'm too long in the tooth :D, to go ahead with it all even tho I know some people my age have done it.

Anyway, I just wanted to ask you if your ortho was keen to do your original plan and did he think it was a completely viable plan because my ortho wasn't keen about that at all, and he also thought i would possibly have to get other teeth removed to even it all up, although not if i didn't mind an uneven smile (he also said I would need teeth out to get the impaction treatment, one of the reasons I didn't want to go thru with it). I actually don't mind having uneven sizes as long as I don''t need teeth removed and the annoying gap is closed up. I appreciate my ortho obviously being a bit of a perfectionist but at my age, I really want to hold on to as many teeth as I can!
Whoops, sorry for the late reply!!
At this point you've probably gone ahead with the treatment but I'll answer just in case. My orthodontist is actually the type that doesn't hesitate with tooth extractions, which looking back I should've considered other options before choosing this one. It's too late now so I just hope everythig turns out alright..

I had my adjustment yesterday (July 18) and my chain was tightened up again. I thought I would show a picture I took today (July 19) that has me a little perplexed, hopefully someone may have an answer:
http://s86.photobucket.com/user/patbelm ... f.jpg.html

Do I see a tooth below the last visible link in the chain? Am I just getting my hopes up? Is that just the tension from the chain on my gums? That seems like an odd position for a tooth to be in, but I just don't know. Today is exactly 17/24 months in braces, a month and a half after exposure. Any answers would help me be more at ease.

I definitely see something but I can't tell if it is a tooth or not.

Have you always had 3.5 links visible? Coz that is a better measure of whether the tooth is moving or not.

Also, it has only been a month since exposure, I am sure your tooth will show itself soon... But don't expect magic
