That’s definitely not true at all.... I’d like to know what’s your source on this. Unhappy extraction patients are just a vocal minority, like another poster said. I’m pretty sure the majority of extraction patients are ecstatic with their results.

Re: Extraction of bicuspids and benefits on the profile
Please be careful when you make a sweeping statement like this online. Someone who is potentially considering braces and is told needs extractions may well just decide never to get braces because of your comment that most that get extractions are not happy with the outcome.
While I agree that extractions are not warranted in some cases, there are also those who'd really benefit from extractions. It is really dependent on the individual case, xrays, facial structure, amount of bone they have, jaw size discrepancies, teeth size, gum and bone health etc that needs an ortho's review and clinical experience to ascertain which is the best treatment modality for that particular patient.
While I sympathize with those whose outcomes from getting extractions were not ideal or even contraindicated, we should not be jumping on the internet to say everyone should not get extractions and should just get an expander or that most seek a reversal without any clinical examination or having any history of the patient(s) just because of the few online accounts who are upset about the outcome of their extractions.
It is absurd and not representative of the majority.

It’s not my intention to discourage anyone to go on extraction and I’m very Sorry for my carelessness and insensitive comment about premolar extraction.
Maybe i’m just upset because it happened to me.
I’ll be carefull next time. Sorry again.

With pleasure! Could you give me your mail please to send you some of my photos? As I see yours I think to chose the extraction route seems to be the good solution, as much as you suffer from mild lip incompetence as I used to.palmtrees321 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 13, 2018 12:01 am Hi! Exactly and that's why I decided to talk about my own story, to say that positives results are not so rare after a 4 premolar extraction treatment. And not to be afraid to opt for it when it´s compulsory. I was myself afraid to end up with a bad outcome during my treatment.

Yes I totally agree! And that´s why Ive chosen to talk about my own story here, to prove that premolar extractions can have positive results. The most important point is to chose the best treatment, which isnt easy.EmilyTravels wrote: ↑Mon Jun 18, 2018 1:41 pm We need a "like" button here. Thank you for all these pertinent words. I can only add that I saw different orthodontists (some of them rejecting extractions) before opting for this treatment and had four appointments with a lot of photos, X-rays and explanations before chosing the extraction route.assertives wrote: ↑Mon Jun 18, 2018 7:09 amPlease be careful when you make a sweeping statement like this online. Re: Extraction of bicuspids and benefits on the profile
i have bit of bimax protrusion and the first time i had braces the ortho went the non extraction route and just straightened my teeth which actually made the protrusion worse, my teeth flared out way more than i remember it doing before and on top of that my teeth seemed to become crooked very fast, i literally broke my retainer because it wouldn’t fit my teeth anymore. now i’m going to a different (and much better) ortho who said, based on my concerns with my flared teeth and profile, that extractions are the only way, because trying to straighten them again will only make them flare out more. sometimes it really is the best option it’s just based on your teeth’s needs and also your aesthetic preference.

Agreed, especially when one is misguided and misinformed to follow a treatment route that you never wanted or thought you needed, but were scared into thinking it was the only way... Very hard to make the right decisions that way. If I were to start over again with all the info I have now I can safely say I would be out of braces a long time ago, I would not have lost any healthy teeth nor developed TMD, speech problems or have an ugly smile. And I would be a happier person. I was just unlucky with the ortho I went to and very stupid for trusting her.Lovespain5 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 12, 2018 5:30 amYes I totally agree! Hi everybody! Just a message to tell that 2 and a half years after debracing, all is perfectly stable. I am myself happily surprised of the complete stabilisation of the results. And of you currently get a 4-premolar extraction treatment, be positive! And dont hesitate ask your orthodontist if you are afraid by potential bad effects.
