Whitening Toothpaste

I get my braces on Thursday, and I was wondering about using whitening toothpaste while I have the braces. My teeth are yellow (too many cigarrettes and too much diet dr pepper) and hopefully I'll be able to get them whitened after the braces are taken off, but I don't want to have whiter teeth around or under the brackets. The whole point of this rambling post is to use whitening toothpaste (I use sensodyne whitening) or not.

I don't smoke or anything, but I do love my coffee drinks. And always thought my teeth could be whiter but, until these braces come off I'll too have to wait to have trays made or to have them whitened professionally. So, in the mean time, I've tried Colgate Simply White toothpaste AND started using and electric toothbrush (it really makes a difference), and I've noticed a BIG difference in how much whiter they got. And I'd say within a week you'll notice a big difference. Hope this helps.
