Overbite reduced just with alignment?

#1 Post by ebjones1 »

I'm still trying to get used to all of the terms - I think what I'm talking about is my overbite (protrusion of upper teeth). Anyway, I've noticed that my bite feels quite a bit different in the front. They are still really out there (I never asked how many mm's so I can't say for sure), but they seem to have come back quite a bit since my teeth have come into better alignment. I also have a really deep bite - my lower front teeth hit the roof of my mouth - and when I bite down hard it feels like my bottom front teeth are now hitting the back of my top front teeth instead of the gummy part of the roof of my mouth. I hope I'm not being confusing!

Has anyone else experienced this? My ortho has said that he'll be using elastics to correct my overbite, but I've only had the one for a week.. I guess it makes a bit of sense for the teeth to move back some since they aren't so crowded. I will post pictures soon..

I understand what you're talking about because I'm in the same boat. I have an overbite with a very deep bite also and can touch the top of my mouth with my bottom teeth. It really weirds my husband out when I talk about it. He has an open bite and can't even imagine anyone being about to do that. Anyway, I think my bite has moved a little also because my jaw doesn't feel tired all the time now.
