I am getting my braces first and then my husband will get orthoclear in the next year or so. My ortho said he can give a something like a 5% or 10% discount.

I think that getting a discount in the 5-10% range for paying up front is common in the US. My discount was 5% of the total. I was also able to negotiate a lower price. I was given a couple different estimates for treatment (metal, ceramic and Damon) and was able to get the Damons for the ceramic price, which was about another $500 off the original quote. So it never hurts to ask.

I would have gotten a 5% discount (i think) if I would have pain up front but I'm a student so 5500$ was a bit much to pay all at once.

Try your hardest! ;)

That would be amazing!
But could you imagine if everyone was able to refer 36 or so people to him?! He would go bankrupt in no time.

I was able to get a 4% discount by paying up front. I also got a discount because my ortho is a preferred provider for my insurance company. Worked out well for me. I only paid $2100 total for treatment and that included a distal jet.

My kid's ortho gave us a huge discount on our second kid's braces. She saw the look on my face when she handed me the estimate and then thought for a moment and said they'd call me after they "worked on it" a bit. Then they came back with an offer that was $1,600 less! I didn't even have to ask!

Didn't do the same on the 3rd child's $$.

My ortho gave me a discount for paying up front.

I received a 5% discount for paying cash up front. It'd have been 3% if I'd used a credit card for full payment. The other ortho I'd consulted didn't offer any discounts.

My daughter got braces about a month after I did. They gave her a 10% "family" discount.

My ortho gives a 5% discount for paying up front which we did, plus you get a 5% discount per person who has had braces. So since I was the third one in my family to get braces we got a 15% discount, plus the 5% for paying up front, so 20%. Even with that they still cost me a lot!

I could have gotten a 5% discount as well if I paid the lump sum up front.

However, that $8100 wasn't going to show up unless I sold various body parts right then & there! ("Check out this spleen! Hardly used!")
