So will gum slow down the process of moving teeth with braces or screw eveything up? My ortho told me not to chew any gum but its addicting and I love gum.Is it really that bad?

I don't think so. My ortho told me to stay away from gum that sticks to braces. He recommends Carefree Koolers mainly. I personally don't chew gum anymore because chewing isn't that much fun for me anymore, but I don't think it would do any damage at all.

I check gum everyday. I think as an adult we can handle it!

I still chew gum often. I think when orthos say 'no gum' it means the more stereotypical preteen kid smacking on a huge wad of bubble gum. Just a stick of regular mint gum should be fine

my ortho also recomends sugar free gum that is OK for Ortho and dental appliances. I never chewed gum before I got braces, but now i do because sometimes it helps with the pain because the pressure of the chewing increases blood flow. or that what they told me anyway.

I chew Trident after every meal and snack. It helps get the food out of the braces.
