tooth removal/braces for lip strain??

#1 Post by Babe »

Hi,
I am new to this board and I have a few questions. I was told when I was 11 (I am 21 now), I should have 4 teeth removed-one on each side of my mouth. I decided against it bc I had already had 12 baby teeth pulled bc they were impacted. This was suppose to help my lip strain which was the only reason for doing this. I do have a recessive chin and I had a chin implant put in 2 years ago to help my profile and it worked.

I do not want surgery but I will go through teeth pulling, braces etc..
Has anyone ever heard of this? Also, I have football shaped molars and was told I do not have enough room in my mouth. So I am guessing have teeth pulled may change the shape of my face??

My teeth are straight from previous ortho work but I stopped wearing my bottom retainer 7 years ago so now they have slightly shifted so my midline is off a tad and my bite is off :-( causing me discomfort.

Sorry for the long post and info appreciated :-)

I would ask your ortho all of these questions. Get several opinions. Ask about the face change thing. There is alot of evidence to suggest that pulling teeth will do that. Although I know someone in my office that had teeth pulled and she looks fine to me. She has a bit of a round face though.

For me it would not work. My face is very thin.
