First Adjustment Yesterday!!! (pics!!!)

#1 Post by rmwolf83 »

Hey everyone! Well, I had my first adjustment yesterday. I figured they'd probably give me stronger wires, bracket my "weird" tooth and get it hooked onto the wire and send me on my merry way. Hmm, I was wrong! They ended up leaving the top archwire as is....added a bunch of wire ties and changed my ligs. Apparently there are quite a few teeth that "we" need to rotate some more. That kind of surprised me, but no big deal. Then.....this is the good part.....they gave me a thicker lower wire, which I figured, but then they went and put a spring in my gap and a power chain across my front six! After they got the bracket on crazy #27, they looped a "power elastic" around that bracket and tied it onto the spring. Talk about pressure!!!

Luckily I'm really not having any pain. I took three motrin before my appt yesterday, and two a bit afterwards. No pain last night....buy my tongue is a little sore today from the new bracket underneath.

I had a really lousy experience at the dentist that I need to vent about. I went in for my cleaning, and the hygenist went and knocked off the bracket that I just had put on yesterday! She was digging around trying to clean some of the tarter (it really builds up under the tooth because it's pretty impossible to keep clean) off, and then I hear her say "oops!" and call for my dentist because she didn't know what to do. I acted like everything was fine and it was no big deal, but I was beyond irritated. Plus, she was super rough during the whole cleaned, resting her hand right across my new spring and then my wire at another spot for leverage. It really hurt, and I let her know, but she didn't change what she was doing. I made the dentist's office contact my ortho for the emergency appointment to get my bracket put back on. The only appt they had was today at 4:30 in one of their other offices which is about 20 miles away from my work, or else I'd have to wait until Friday. Usually I go to the office that's about a 1/2 mile away. So, I had already used, and gone over, my lunch hour for my cleaning, but now I'd have to go back to work and ask if I could leave at 4 o'clock. So frustrating!!!!! Thank goodness my employer is pretty understanding and will allow me to make up the time. Well, if you've made it this far, thanks for listening!

Now for the good stuff, here are some pictures...

First is a comparison between 7/25 and now (I just figured out how well the flash works when I use it to take pics of my mouth!) :

And here is a pic of my new ligs and powerchain:

And here is the clear band that's tied to my spring to bring the cuspid up where it belongs:
