Development of fetish

#1 Post by Luke N. »

I was just wondering if its normal to develop a brace fetish if you have a brace yourself?

I don't know if it's "normal" or not, but I can understand being more attracted to people with braces since you know they are taking steps to improve their smile and the health of their teeth and gums.

I guess with all so-called fetishes, it's because you have something in common with other people who feel the same.

So I guess it would follow that if you had braces then you might be more attracted to others who had them, because you would feel that they understood you better?

I wouldn't say its a fetish but along those lines, I have a real problem with the way I look at people now..... That sounds bad doesn't it..

But everyone I meet thats including my friends, i'm always drawn to their mouth and specifically their teeth and whilst they are chatting to me I am looking to see how good or bad their teeth are..

I really wish I could stop it.. I'm worried they are going to notice one day!

sjsarre - I do the same thing. I'm amazed at the number of people I used to think had great teeth who now that I really look, don't. Then there are the people (one really, a member of my hubby's family) who really do have perfect teeth and have never had orthodontic work. Those people just make me mad! :x

1. Something, such as an object or a nonsexual part of the body, that arouses sexual desire and may become necessary for sexual gratification.
2. An abnormally obsessive preoccupation or attachment
So I prefer to think that if I do have a fetish it is definition number 2, not number 1. I got these off dictionary.com

I think it is kind of like when you get pregnant - all of the sudden everywhere you go you see pregnant people. Ok, maybe not the best example ...... how about when you get a new car and everywhere you go you see your same car. It isn't a fetish, rather a hightend awareness.

I used to home in on people's mouths all the time. The worst was when I was around a dive instructor who had a mouth full of metal and elastics. I couldn't take my eyes off her mouth and I'm sure she was aware of it. I cringe at the thought! Now I'm consciously forcing myself not to do that.

I don't run into many adults with braces. However, I do have a friend in her 40's who's had braces for the last 18 months. She talked about it at the outset and the topic hasn't come up since. She hasn't noticed my braces in the last couple of encounters (she would have commented!). I'm having dinner with her on Saturday night and I think it may be time to, er, let her know and see what transpires...

Fetish?

I'm not really comfortabe with the title fetish. What I can relate it to is an established common ground. For example, in some cities the people are very sports centered. You may not have any clue about who you're talking to but you can say how about those ________(fill in the team's name). Another example would be two parents with kids. They may not have anything in common except the kids. They can talk for an hour about daycare.

So with braces we talk about how the treatment is going. Whoever is farther ahead can relate about where the other is. The beginner can get information about what new events are ahead. We all want to know what our future awaits or celebrate having put certain events behind us. While I know a bite plate is in my future (November 16}, I want someone who has one to tell me what to expect. I think it would be more accurate than what my ortho tells me. I'm not sure that's a fetish. I think its a shared misery er....experience.

Ok so i agree it is about shared experience and all that but sometimes it is a sexual attraction brought on by the braces. it may have something to do with the whole "you're attracted to people who look like yourself theory". who knows

After being braced I noticed peoples mouths all the time, and noticed quite a few people with braces. Now I don't even think about it. When someone mentioned I have braces, it's like 'uh.. oh yeah.' I often forget that I have them.

A fetish is something that someone likes alot. Most people think it is weird because they don't understand it. Alot of people are very closed-minded when it comes to fetishes. I've met alot of people who have some and I don't find them weird at all.

I've looked around and I've seen tons of posts and tons of stuff about "fetishists" on these boards. I joined this a while back to get feedback from an orthodontist if I could perhaps join the field, if possible, when I went to college.

People need to lighten up a bit.
People make it seem like a disease just to like something out of the ordinary.

Sort of like how when we got a new roof on our house I'd be driving around all the time craning my head looking at all the roofs on all the houses "mmmn, nice 4 pitch there." Almost had a few accidents.
