Something I Hadn't Thought about. . .
Here's a little gallows humor? I was talking with a good friend today and she was asking how long I had to wear braces and what I wanted done if "anything should happen to you". I answered "if you're asking if I die of old age before my braces are off, do I want to be buried in them? - hell yes, I paid for them." Anyway, we both had a good laugh
but Meryaten - if your orthodontic treatment was almost finished anyway, wouldn't you want to have them removed so that you look nice in your coffin?
Somebody I work with made some stupid comment to me about "why are you spending all that money on your teeth when you could get run over by a bus tomorrow" to which I replied "at least I'll look good at my funeral!"

But friends, all this irony
Yes, if that would happen, then the braces should indeed be removed before
the funeral. Where do you think you'll find an ortho who would change your
ligs over and over again ? I mean, digging you up, open the coffin, change
your ligs, close the coffin and bury again. This is a lot of work you know.
One thing though, when they dig you up in the year 12514, I think they will
have a good laugh. Look, one says, what they did in the old days to correct
teeth. My god, another says, metal on teeth. Bwah. I am happy, he goes
on, that we now have this instant correction. One injection in the bone and
the next day, our teeth are perfectly aligned and the bite is awesome, he
said with a white smile that created a flash that his sister who lives on Mars
saw when looking through the window ...

Sorry this is pretty gross, I have thoughts that if I crash my motorcycle (I ride a lot) and hit my mouth and knock some teeth out that this wire would hold the now missing teeth. Would be terrible to have to go to the hospital with a wire sticking out of your mouth holding bloody teeth.
Sorry... Yikes!

Kat,
That's the reason I won't let my husband EVER get braces.
We'd need new teeth and a new bike. We can't afford new teeth!

This is funny, love the gallows humour. My daughters also said the same to me "what if you die when you have your braces on?". I responded that they should get them taken off and have an open casket and ask the undertaker to make sure that I'm smiling so that everyone can admire my lovely teeth. Of course this would depend on when I die i.e. if it were near the end of my treatment when my teeth looked good.
