Does this make sense?

#1 Post by BrandiJeane »

Yesterday I was fit for my retainer . I get my braces off Nov. 15th . They arent perfect. I will definately be seeking further orthodontic treatment later. But I cant complain. They are being done for free. Anyways my question is. My ortho fitted me for my retainer yesterday and than put another powerchain across my front teeth. I can feel them shifting more. My teeth are SORE. So you would think the retainer wouldnt fit when he actually puts it in in 3 weeks?! Any comments?

BrandiJeane,

Does seem a little weird as the retainer is supposed to mate exactly to your tooth geometry and 'retain' their current alignment.

If you got a new powerchain that suggests that some tooth or teeth are still not in their final position. I would definitely ask your ortho why he/she took your retainer impression while your teeth were still moving.

Regards,

ICE.

Thank God great looking teeth aren't one of them.

Yes, it does make sense, sort of... I bet you are getting a Hawley. He knows what he wants to accomplish with the power chain, so he can have the manufacturer adjust the impression to accomodate that. I was sort of in the same boat when I got the impressions for my bite positioner. I had been using elastics on the left side and it seemed stable enough until the wire was taken out. Then the teeth dropped some. I still had the impressions done and the doctor noted it in his "prescription" for it. I still had to have it adjusted a little more, though, because during the three week waiting period, I continued to use the elastics and got it right on...

Good luck to you.
Had Damon 3 / Smart Clips for almost 2 years
Now in Hawley upper 10 hours/day, permanent lower retainers
