ladies in their 35 and plus..

#1 Post by payoki »

I noticed that after my girlfriend got her braces to correct her overbite, the laugh line, wrinkles around her mouth has gotten visibly worse.
I think since the skin around her mouth doesn't have to stretch as much to cover her previously protruding teeth the wrinkles do appear deeper.
I'm also wearing braces to correct my overbite and I can't wait to get the braces off but I'm also worried about the wrinkles...
Does anyone experience this?

If I had to worry about wrinkles every time I smiled, laughed, yawned, closed my mouth, etc. I'd be one very unhappy camper indeed.

In any event, they're not wrinkles, they're "experience". And I've got lots of it!

Gee, that's depressing!

I could see this happening, though. Older people who have removable dentures seem to develop deeper wrinkles around the mouth because their skin isn't supported at night.

Perhaps a trip to the dermatoligist would be a great 'get your braces off' reward. That way you can look foward to two things - great new teeth and a shiny new skin. BTW - I confess to having considered getting an eye lift near the time I have jaw surgery....that way I can pass my new look off as part of the Lefort, and I won't have to fess up to having other work done  Now I all I need to do is find a few extra dollars that I don't need for anything else LOL!

wrinkles

My mom told me I have more wrinkles (crow's feet) than she did at my age (almost 35). I thought gee thanks.... Maybe that means I smile and laugh more than she did.

Well with year 42 fast approaching I'm definately getting some wrinkles around my eyes. I had upper and lower jaw surgery with the upper palate widened at the same time. Interestingly this widening process decreased some wrinkles around my lip area. I hope this improvement remains when my braces come off the there is less "bulk" for my lips to cover. So it does seem that braces would possibly stretch out wrinkles or perhaps enhance them depending on the direction of movement. On the other hand, who really cares, I personally like being nearly 42 :D and believe I would rather have straight teeth even if it means a few wrinkles.

Payoki, I find your post rather sad actually. We're all getting older, and well... wrinkles happen!! I would hope that you did not bother pointing out to your girlfriend the new wrinkles as this would turn what was hopefully a positive experience (her teeth getting straightened) into a slightly more negative one.

Personally, I think peoples' wrinkles tend to show what their outlook on life was. Laugh lines, frown lines... they all tell a story. Hopefully my wrinkles will tell the story of a woman who has been happy and enjoyed her life here on earth.

I agree. This is why the laugh lines don't bug me but the wrinkles over my lip do. When I look in the mirror and see those wrinkles over my lip I see my grandmother who smoked for 60 years. I don't smoke.

There are some very noninvasive things you can do. I am considering a little lazer resurfacing just over my lip. But right now I am just looking at using retin -a type stuff to see if I can plump things up. But in general because of braces I now have more lip support rather than less so this should not be bothering me.

Anyway this is why my favorite show is Desperate Housewives. They seem to have the same kind of aging going on that I do and I think they all look awesome.

Glycolic acid - which can be used as a home face peel as long as you are careful and follow the instructions to the letter, can be quite effective at removing those very fine lines and also making the texture of the skin in general smoother and softer. It works by speeding up the rate that old skin is shed.

It won't work on actual "wrinkles" but since I've been using it my skin does look and feel better, and the incipient lines on my upper lip seem to have disappeared. They were only very fine so I guess I caught them in time lol

At age 48 I don't even worry about the wrinkles anymore...but the good news is that I have noticed that my smile dimples are more pronounced now!!
