Not sure how to go about asking the questions I have going through my head at the moment but here goes....
Well my partner and I had planned to do all this traveling in like 18-22 months away, need to save. We had planned on doing a canada experience, like for 12 months, working in the Ski season, and because Im way over in NZ im not sure when winter is but i think its like october, well thats when we would like to go (2008). But Im not a 100% sure i will have my braces off, and I really wanna do this!!!! Is there anyway that I could cut the time down, maybe speaking to my ortho and ask if they can take them off at the end of september 2008 and then just wear a retainer.... i got them on on the 05th of December 2006. Any advice would be great. Dont want to have to put my life on hold for too long!!! NZ is sooooo small its a little too small!
Are you planning on a 6 month ski season? Winter solstice in the northern hemisphere is around mid December with spring starting in Mid March. Having said that ski season here in CA is (if we are Lucky) from Thanksgiving to sometime in April depending on the year. I myself detest spring skiing in California. Way to slushy. Canada I would guess, the season starts earlier and ends later. Maybe someone in Canada can pitch in here to help.
When did you get your braces and how long was your estimate?
Thanks for your reply, We would like to go on a working holiday visa for 1 year, so the ski season for as long as itll let us and then i geuss pick up jobs where we can. really just want to see more of the world and figure its a good place to start!
I got my braces on on the 05 december 2006 and was first estimated for 18 months by one ortho and then another said 22 months, so yeah not to sure on how long.
Common up, the skiing's great in Canuckland!!! I live in Toronto, Ontario and we have the best ski resorts (well, outside of British Columbia!!). The season usually starts in November, but this year it's been way to mild and the resorts have just started making snow now. It just depends on the weather.
As far as treatment goes, if you're planning on being in the Toronto area, I would be more than happy to help find an ortho for you, maybe even mine - he's great!!!
Anyway, sounds like a wonderful trip. You'll certainly notice a huge difference from NZ!!!
I would talk to your ortho and tell him you have a goal date in mind and see if he can fit the treatment into that window.
Sounds like it would be about the time that you were going to be finished anyway. I wouldn't want to have them taken off too soon, but maybe with a little controlled timing, it can all work out to a natural end by the time you wish to.
Yeah, skiing resorts in the east are screaming for snow (and so am I ), but the season seems to be in full swing in Alberta and British Columbia, which are my two favorite provinces to ski in. It all depends where you're planning on going. I've noticed that in the past few years, our ski season in Quebec is a good month shorter. Damn you, global warming!
Braced Kiwi Girl, PM me if you like for more skiing info.
