I´m going to put braces next month, and in the middle of the orthodontic treatment i will have orthognatic surgery

But I'v decided to worry at one thing at a time. So now the "drama" is about the braces that my ortho wants to use.

She uses Dentaurum metal braces (Ultra-Minitrim), or in alternative Inspire Ice.

First i decided that I wanted the clear brackets... but after seeing all of your fotos the metal ones dont so bad to me anymore... And I was speeking the other day with a guy I met that has clear brackets and it look kind of grosse! (and because i like wine, and curry, and all those things that staine the ligs, i'm afraid I'll look like that )

So now my only option is the ultra-minitrim....

I found out that that same manufacturer has other metal brackets that are smaller (Equilibrium Mini) and I asked her if she could use those... she didn´t seemed much inclined to do so....

Does someone uses one of theese brackets? Any opinions about this?

Do you notice that some people have metal b that seem ok, and others seem like they have this huge metal things in their mouths?

Can't tell you about the metal ones yet -that comes next month.

I have the clears on top and now am using white wire ties instead of colored ligs to hold the wire on and I must say they are great!!!!
No staining and everyone I meet say they didn't even see my braces.
I won't go metal on top, the ceramics are worth the extra for me bay far. I will have metals on the bottoms.

I am in the same situation... I can between ceramic or metal braces. The ceramic ones looks so big and bulky. And I unfortunately smoke, so I am afraid I will eventually have yellow-gray ceramisc.
I my job don't see too much people... just working alone in lab.
I have read that metal ones are the fastets ones.

I will enquire the ortho about staining and will also compare the sizes of metal and ceramics. Then I will make my decision.

I would take ceramics if I would be working with loads of people.

And definitely the clear ones are bigger! In the case of the ones my ortho uses the diference is 1mm.... doesn't seem like much...but in the tooth having a thing with 3mm or 4mm glued to it must make some diference in terms of apearance... i think... and what about the diference in terms of feeling in the mouth/lips?

...And the clear are more expensive...

Usually ceramic brackets cost more than metals (although at my ortho that is not the case, at other orthos I saw it was). Traditonal metal can sometimes move teeth better than ceramics, and oftentimes you'll have to have metal on the bottom because of the dangers of top teeth hitting ceramic brackets.

I don't have braces yet, but I often find that I sometimes don't notice at first when people are wearing braces (even metals). Other members here who wearing braces have said this too, I'm sure they will tell you their stories.

I wanted ceramic at first too, but I've since decided that I don't care much about my braces showing, and I'd like to put fun colors on them (I don't think colors would look as good on ceramics personally). My ortho wants me to use metal anyway, he says they would work better for my case.

I have ceramic (clarity) on the top and damon 3mx (self-ligating) on the bottom. There is definitely quite a difference in size, as I believe the damon 3mx are one of the smallest metal brackets at the moment. BUT that said, its only when I stare at my mouth that I notice. The ceramics are totally comfortable and I don't think anyone sees them much so its a case of the difference between not seeing something large or not seeing something small. Doesnt make any real difference.....

I went for the good ole' metal brackets. I am not sure what they are called, but my ortho told me that he uses the smallest size he can and still have quick results. I was so scared of metal brackets - I work in a job where I talk to the public. He had discussed ceramics with me, but they were a bit bulkier and, quite frankly, I didn't want to spend the extra money. I am very pleased with the way they look. My husband says they are really cute and I always get fun colored ligs.

My main concern was that I would look like I had a huge mouth full of metal for a year and a half. In all honesty, they aren't that bad. Some people I have known for years didn't even notice. They are a LOT smaller than I thought they'd be.

Sally if your ortho used modern brackets and archwires, this is a myth. There will be no difference ... and this helps explain why orthos will use different brackets on the same arch. If your ortho is not well trained in the use of ceramic brackets, you're best to go with what he prefers, or change to a more experienced ortho.

I don't mind at all that my ortho prefers metal, I had already decided to go with metal before I even met him.

As for "Traditional metal moves teeth better", I didn't exactly hear that from my ortho, I remember reading it somewhere on the Internet. Thanks for clarifying, though, you're probably right. I still want to get metal, though, for various reasons (I like to eat curry and don't want the ligs to stain, I think metal might look cute on me, etc.)
