Teeth pulled, then braces....

#1 Post by camille »

Sorry I haven't posted in so long. Anyway, I've had my expander for a couple months, and I'm finished with cranking it. I had a gap for about a week but it quickly closed up.
Next Thursday (January 4) I'm getting braces, and today, I'm getting 2 baby teeth pulled. I'm scared!!! I still have 4 baby teeth, and they say that if these teeth don't come in on their own, I'll need some surgery to "help" the adult teeth come in. I'm REALLY scared for that. Hopefully they'll just come in on their own.
Anyway, I might get my expander out today since it's bonded to baby teeth. When I was little, I had TONS of baby teeth pulled, but I don't remember what it felt like. Can anyone help? Also, how long does it take to pull out a tooth? Thanks!!!

I hope the extractions go well for you and pray the adult teeth naturally come through.

I had 4 adult teeth taken out about 17-18 months ago before being braced and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I was most scared of having injections before in my gum but you don't feel the needle much. I barely felt the teeth come out either although my dentist had a hell of a job getting one out since it was so rotated. He tried several positions before the rascal popped out. I think the worst part was the bleeding, which ended in about 2 hours altogether. Make sure you do warm salt rinses to help the gums recover. Also, the anesthetic made my mouth go so numb, it was the weirdest sensation! My lips felt massive and I couldn't stop touching them. :)

I wouldn't worry about it. Once they're over and done with, extractions aren't nearly as bad as they sound!
