1. You notice how good or bad other people's teeth are more. I always look at people's teeth now, without realising it most of the time.
2. Braces don't give you perfect teeth, just make the most of what you have.
3. I learnt how to floss and the value of cleaning thoroughly twice a day.
4. Gaps take far too long to close.
5. Caramel/other sticky things are
bad.
6. You look for any movement in every mirror that you pass.
7. You learn the proper names for teeth.
8. Interdental brushes are a godsend.
9. They make me smile much more without me noticing or necessarily meaning to.
10. All the different sorts of bite that existed. I was only really aware of underbite because one of my friends is having it corrected.
I began to run out of good points after the first few.

Does anybody here not whistle anymore besides me , I REALLY miss that. And not that I was any good at it anyway, people said it was akin to a real sic bird. Maybe braces will help, maybe not, but I do miss it.

Here is another one - I never noticed that I use my teeth to help open up those little hair elastics. Of course I can't do it anymore and I now find those little suckers all over my house. Can't whistle anymore either.

10 Things I've Learnt Since Wearing Braces
1. You have to like yourself in order to change yourself.
2. Anticipation and wariness of something is usually worse than the actual event.
3. I don't need to hide my mouth behind my hand when I smile. (I stopped doing that the day I got braces.)
4. You have to have a really good Education Assistant who doesn't mind singing Sausages are sizzling S S S, and Ox on a box X X X to your pre-primary class, since your are incapable of enunciating S's and X's properly with braces.
5. You spit a lot when speaking with braces on so the front row of your pre-primary class need to sit further back.
6. I can go without chocolate, lollies and fizzy drinks for the last 2 1/2 years.
7. Jaw surgery really isn't so bad.
8. I can breathe and kiss easier (no teeth in the way)
9. With less than two months to go in braces, that this is not over yet. (root canal to be completed, possible crowns on two molars, and gum grafts to go)
10. This has been so worth it. I should have done it years ago.
