Average length of time in elastics?

#1 Post by ssfw »

I was wondering if there was an average amount of time a person has to wear elastics. I just begin wearing elastics 3 weeks ago and they have not been a problem at all, in fact, sometimes I forget I have them on, but was wondering if there is an average time. I know it's different for everyone. My elastics are to correct my bite and reduce my overjet.

thanks,

I don't know an average time, but I can give you my time and maybe with other's you can figure an average.

I've had mine for 8 1/2 months now. Will be done in 2 weeks!

9 months total.

I asked my ortho this last time I was in because I've been in elastics for a few months. His reply was basically, you are in them until you don't need them anymore! Nice and vague....

Howdy,
Got my braces in October, 2005 and started wearing elastics in May, 2006. And, at my appointment last week, I got the good news that I only have to wear my elastics at night. So, that was about 7 months wearing them 24/7. And, my initial prognosis was that I would be in braces for 18 months, so I have 4 months to go. Don't know yet if I will have to keep wearing the elastics at night for the whole time.
