Am I imagining this???
I'm just slightly confused about this so I guess I could ask instead of just sitting here wondering about it.
Ok...my molar band...just one of them...stinks...and I can taste it sometimes. It just so happens to be the one that came loose. I'm scared that something is rotting in there. I mentioned it to the assistant who fixed my tiebacks and she said that it wasn't loose again. And there was nothing out of the ordinary that she could see...
It made me feel like I was making things up, but I know what I taste. I'm thinking after I eat...maybe...but not after I brush, rinse, waterpik and floss. I tried brushing my tongue AND the roof of my mouth..I read somewhere that you should do that...so I gave it the old college try...strange sensation... And I used the tongue cleaning tool that came with my waterpik and the one for your gumline...bleh...
Could it be from chewing on that side the most? But the metal itself still shouldn't smell, tho...I think?
I don't want to seem a nuisance, so I'm just going to wait these 2 weeks til my next adjustment to say something about it if the smell is still there. I guess I can last that long....**sigh**

I can't speak for a band but I had a crown once that got loose and the tooth was decaying underneath, and everytime I bit down, I had a horrible taste in my mouth Maybe food is just stuck somewhere, but I would definitely bring it up again and have it thoroughly checked out...cause that taste is nasty!

Is there a way I could get it out on my own? I'm mean I done used like 3 different tips with the waterpic...I can't think of anything else. When the band was off I should have asked if I could floss there. But she cleaned the band and the area with suction and water, tho...
I will make sure of it next time. It just so happens I got the assistant who put my braces on in the first place. But it was also on the day my orthodontist is not there, I should have waited until yesterday. I'm just scared that the tooth started to decay cuz I think the band was loose the week I got my braces on. That's a long time for food to sit somewhere, considering that tooth has a 15 yr old filling in it already. Ughh...who knows.Talk to your ortho (not the assistant this time).
If they don't find anything, I'm just going to call my dentist and see it they could think of anything that could be wrong...

I don't have molar bands but this doesn't sound right. I'm not sure if there is a problem whether a two week wait will do any damage but it doesn't sound very nice to live with anyway. If you've tried everything to clean it and it still is not right then I think you should see the ortho.

I had/have a similar problem. I noticed about a week ago that the area of one of my molar bands was stinky. I couldn't smell it accept when I flossed in there. The gum was really irritated and would bleed like crazy everytime I flossed it. The just the past two days it has gotten better. I thought at first that it might be lose but it doesn't feel or look loose. I usually only floss at night but it was getting so gross that I decided just to floss that tooth after I ate evertime and that seemed to help. I usually only rinsed with mouthwash at night too but I am now doing that after I eat everytime. Either way I am going to ask about it when I go in on Friday for my adjustment just to have them check and make sure its not lose or not "sealed" very well and stuff is getting stuck in there. Good luck turrrtlelove... hope it all gets resolved.

Have you tried those interdental brushes, the real small ones go between the teeth?
Chris...I think the smallest ones I have the package said narrow on it. They are the perfect size for sweeping those little tubes, so I think they are just a little too big too go between my teeth. If worst comes to worse, I guess I can order some, but I doubt it comes to that.
Joney...Lucky you...wish I didn't have them...It does kind of suck...makes me feel like my breath stinks when I talk to ppl...lol...always have mints handy tho. I'm gonna see how things go these couple of weeks and try different things. And if it's still a problem I will ask my orthodontist herself...sometimes those assitants can seem clueless.don't have molar bands but this doesn't sound right. PrincessMelody...I'm going to ask about this too...thas a good idea. You know, my orthodontist sanded down the part of the band that was hitting and made it get knocked loose. I'm thinking could it be possible the glue cracked from this and stuff is getting in there? Anywho...good luck with your visit...check and make sure its not lose or not "sealed" very well and stuff is getting stuck in there.
Meryaten...thanks for those links they came in handy...I'm going to try that knot trick tonite. And try not to chew on that side if I can help it...thanks again for looking those up...
ive had a problem with one of my upper bands where all the sudden out of no where, i will just start getting this weird taste off the band, its not a bad taste, but it isnt normal either.. so this might be the same thing.
sportsgrl97...I think my band is loose...just not as loose as it was before since it has been reglued...I know that wierd taste your talking about tho...its not bad like something stinky, but just kind of an off taste? Does it happen often for you?
