How did you feel when you saw the first photo of your teeth?

#1 Post by MsViola »

Is it just me??? I was quite distressed when I saw the photos on "record day". Now I am noticing things tabout my teeth that I never saw before. Will I ever be satisfied, even after braces?

dont feel bad i didnt even recognise my own teeth. My chart was layin open on the table and i thought that it was not mine. I told the assistant that she must have grabbed the wrong chart. She checked it and sure enough it was mine. I was shocked that my teeth were so bad. I didnt not get braces to fix the looks of my teeth I jus tthought i had a really bad over bite and wanted my TmJ to stop getting worse. I dont know you personally so i cant really say about your other question. I doubt that on the big de-banding day that you wont be thrilled though. I try to look at the before shots that the ortho took every time i go for an adjustment so i can see how far I have come since the begining.

I originally consulted about braces due to my jaw/bite being out of alignment, tension headaches and tightness in my lower jaw. I knew I had an overbite but I had never noticed the spaces between my teeth before. Now I notice something new each day.

I knew almost all the things, which were wrong, before I went to consultation. I was not really shocked about my picture, as my teeth are quite straight.

I knew my teeth weren't perfect but I didn't notice all the issues with them until I saw them close up taking my "before" pictures. It make me even happier with my decision to get braced aftter seeing them now. :D

I knew what to expect when I saw my records pics, so no surprises there.

As to whether you'll ever be satisfied, that depends on what you want. I'd always wanted functional improvement and to be able to bite down on all teeth. I've just about got that now so I'm a happy camper. Any cosmetic improvements are secondary.

The day my records were taken the asst asked if I wanted to see them, and I couldn't say no fast enough! When I went for my first adjustment my ortho asked the asst to pull up my photos (they are all digital and kept on the computer) so he could compare, and I got my first look. I was MORTIFIED :paperbag: It didn't help that the mirror they used to take pics of my uppers had brown spots all over it, which made my teeth look like they were covered in tiny bugs :FeelSick:

Since that first viewing it doesn't bother me as much, but it bothers me to see pics from years ago when I'm actually smiling because I can tell how bad my teeth were. As sad as it is, I especially hate looking at my wedding photos! But hey, at least I know my hubby isn't superficial!

I didn't see the photos, but I saw the xray and the plaster molds, and it was surprising just because I hadn't gotten xrays of my teeth taken in so long. Without them, it would have been harder to conceptualize what my ortho meant when he told me my front teeth were tilted 115 degrees instead of 97, or whatever outrageous number it was.

As for being satisfied, I don't know if anyone who goes through treatment will be satisfied. We are human after all.

I knew my teeth were severely overcrowded but to see them at so many different angles was really a horror for me. For at least 4 almost 5 months I would go in for adjustments and just look away when the ortho opened my chart and put it on the counter. Now I look and accept that this is the way they USED to look and I've only been braced for almost 7 months. Now I can't wait until the day that I get debanded and compare the pictures to my new smile :)

Why is it that the teeth look worse on camera than in the mirror then? Which one is lying to us?

I´ve no pictures of my teeth or pictures where you can see me laughing (teeth) because I really hate my teeth.

Therefore, at the orthos second appointment it was the first time I could see my teeth on pictures. I was shocked when I went into the room where my pictures where on the screen saver (!!!). I really wasn’t able to look at these pictures. They were shocking me, because everything seemed to be worser than it really is. :-((

In February I will start with Invisalign and I should take a few “beforeâ€

The pics I was used to, it was the xray that got me. I was soooo horrified when I saw exactly how far my front teeth stuck out in relation to my skull. At that point I was glad I had some extra fat on me!!! Had I been skinnier with thinner lips it would have been even worse...gah... I've lost 15lbs since then and am continuing to lose so hopefully things will even out when they come off... :D :D :D

I had my third adjustment on 6-14-07. For the first time I was able to look at my pre-brace pics without cringing. It was nice to actually see a real change.

I havent seen my before pics but i've taken my own unfortunatley i didnt start taking them until a few months into treatment.

Im having my braces off next month and im really eager to see the before/after pictures, i already knew most of the problems with my teeth but looking back at photos with my buck teeth makes my cringe.

When I had a skull X_ray done I had to position my lower and upper teeth on to the tray (there were little "cracks" where to put my front teeth). This position was not my natural and it made my upper front teeth look goofier than they are in reality.
