Help is there a floss out there that I can use?

#1 Post by Kat »

I had my bottom brackets placed a week and a half ago and I can not floss between my two front bottom teeth now!
I need some kind of floss that is strong and round and not the flat type--it flattens out and will not no matter what go thru the two teeth. I need something more like string floss but don't know which one this is.
Anyone know of something that will work???

I'm not sure what you've been using, but I find Oral B Superfloss does the job for me. One end is stiff so that you can get it behind the wire.

Kat, it gets much easier. I remember my first few weeks I had a lot of trouble getting the floss between several spots. At that time I fed Oral-B silk through (it was ultra-thin). Now I have so many gaps that I use Superfloss on the spongy end just to get the edges of my teeth! :)

While your teeth are super-tight, you could try using a WaterPik instead of actual floss. Either that, or if you have small gaps at your gumline, try feeding the floss in there instead of up under the wire and over the tooth.

Superfloss, but similar experience

#5 Post by tcomeau »

I've also had good luck with superfloss, particularly on some of my very short lowers where there's very little space between the bracket and the gum line. I can get the spongy part down around the bottom of the bracket where I can't get the brush, and get the thin part leveraged between the teeth.

But I've also had a similar experience with my lower incisors, which have quite a bit of twist on them. About a week after the braces went on, it seemed like as they "untwisted" they jammed up against each other. I couldn't get even Glide (which is very slim and very slick) in there for a while. As the arch opened up a bit, I could get Glide in again (using a threader to get under the wire) and now I'm back to superfloss.

There is a surprising amount of stored energy in the interface between the tooth and the jaw!
