Tooth extraction/profile question??

#1 Post by charlotte T »

Would having teeth extracted affect someones profile negatively?

I am a bit worried that as I already have a "weak chin" according to my ortho, that the 2 extractions I had on my bottom set of teeth might make my profile even worse because my bottom teeth now are more or less straight (ish) but the gaps are still there waiting to be closed. Hope this makes sense!
Do extractions even affect someones chin?

I'll run it past my ortho the next time I see him but any advice would be appreciated!

I guess it depends on your bite to begin with. I had four bicuspid extraction (top and bottom) and it definetly affected my chin. I already have a recessed chin but now it has some definition to it , does that make sense, especially in the area below the lip. My mouth was so crowded that my chin are was flat now I have the nice curve forming under my bottom lip so it definetly affected my but in a good way. I can actually see a chin now, even though it is still recessed, I am having a BSSO in june of this year to bring the lower jaw forward.

Hope that helps.

Thanks jmrut22. Yes that does make sense, at least that shows that extractions don't always have a negative affect, profile-wise. Cheers!
