Sonic brush question

Hey all
just got my sonic brush last week. According to the directions it says to replace head every 6 months. Doesn't that seem a little long to be using the same brush ? Doesn't sound very hygenic to me. They say to clean it with water. Is there a better way to clean the head ?

I run mine under extemely hot water. You could use hydrogen peroxide, since they put that in toothpaste anyway. Just be sure and rinse it well.
I think 6 months is reasonable with those brushes since the heads are so expensive!

Six months for normal people. Braced people aren't normal (at least in this case). I use mine for my nightly cleanings and can tell a real difference in cleaning in a month's time.

I give mine a soak in good ol bleach every now and then - kill all those pesky little germs. I am like you and like to change my brushes every two or three months, but they just cost so darn much that I wait to see signs of wear before I change them.

My wife gave me a good idea, just soak the head in a little of my colgate mouth rinse every once in a while. Should keep it germ free. The replacement heads are expensive. Need to make them last as long as possible.
Thanks, Ives

Karen - it is funny. I assumed that with braces my brush heads would get shabby quickly, but I am happy to say that has not been the case (oral b sonic). As to the bleach, I see a holistic doctor who recomends disinfecting toothbrushes in a waterd down bleach solution whenever you are sick or feel a bit under the weather. She says that it helps....who knows? I figure after paying her so much money I might as well do what she says

I have an e-series Sonicare toothbrush, the head brush is kind of wear now, it's been 2.5 months. I clean it with water only as I'm the only one who uses it. I brush 2, 3 or 4 times a day but I only use the Sonic at night, during the OTT. I think I will replace the head when it's 4 months old. Yes, brush heads are expensive, but it's well spent money, especially for me with braces
