What are you craving RIGHT NOW?

#1 Post by chlorine23 »

So I'm new to this whole braces thing, AND I'm post-op, so I'm pretty much on liquid and very soft foods (firmest is cottage cheese). I've been craving pizza for several days now. My roomate just made chicken SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM and tater tots. I'm loving the smell. I thought it would irritate me since I can't have any, but I actually enjoy it.

So I know at least SOME of you guys have got to be craving something you can't have (like theater style buttered popcorn). Anyone care to share? I'm having a can of Ensure for dinner being as I snacked throughout my night class (a yogurt smoothie, protein naked juice and flan), and I'm too lazy to figure out dinner.

I've really been in the mood for a ton of Laffy Taffy lately. I can sometimes eat one small, fresh piece with care, but only sometimes...and I really shouldn't do it even then.

I've pretty much been able to eat anything I want.

Some chocolate would go down well right now.....must be time to go home.

It's really hard for me to chew period. Not from lack of trying. My teeth aren't nearly as sensitive anymore but with my cross bite my mouth doesn't close down like it used to because of the braces. Still can't chew meat. So I am craving steak after my hubby cooked it this weekend. It smelled so good!!!

Since I got my braces, I've been craving a big, juicy hamburger. I know that I can get a hamburger and cut it up and eat it, but it's just not the same.

For a while I was having trouble biting into things. I'm not sure if it hurt or if it just felt too weird, but I found that I was cutting everything up into bite-size pieces - except bananas. Now, I can bite into sandwiches and things like that, but it clogs up my braces so much that I don't enjoy it very much.

So, when my braces come off, I'm heading to McDonald's and I'm going to eat a Big Mac IN MY CAR. No knife and fork for me!

I also find that lately, I've wanted caramel corn. I take the train into Chicago once a week now and there's a popcorn stand in the station that has the best-smelling caramel corn.

Cadbury creme eggs. I can eat them now, very very carefully, but my favorite way to eat them is to bite off the top to start with. Not such a great idea with braces.

Four items:
Peanuts at a baseball game or at a steakhouse (along with the right beer)
Cadbury's Fruit and Nut Chocolate without being careful of the nuts
Carmel Corn without sucking on it until I can chew it

AND Number One:

A FRESH Apple without peeling it and slicing and dicing it into tiny little pieces!

With the exception of 2-3 days after each adjustment I have been able to eat whatever I wanted.

However, there is one item that has been haunting me since b-day - carmel apples, preferrably drizzled with chocolate and rolled in nuts.

Whoever mentioned the Cadburry Cream Eggs - curse you! One of the best things about Easter time and so NOT good for me. I had forgotten about them until I read this post. Temptation!

Oh, and I miss gum... again. I couldn't have it while I had my expander then I got rid of the expander and I had 6 weeks with my beloved cinnamon gum. Last week I got elastics and I haven't dared try to chew gum with elastics in. Anyone tried it?
Expander in 8/9/06
Lowers on 11/30/06
Uppers on / Expander gone on 1/31/2007
Class III elastics added 3/14/2007
Expander #2 - 6/27/2007
20-24 months w/ fixed metal braces

Haha, I love that! I'm so adicted to caffeine. My docs are so lucky they didn't try to ban me from coffee. Just the morning of the surgery was bad enough. I would've raised hell!

OMG, McDonalds! I love McDonalds french fries. The night before my surgery, for my "last meal" I had their fries and chicken selects. It was so incredibly painful to chew being as I just got my Nance appliance put on. I tried so hard. I got halfway through the fries and maybe 3 chicken pieces down.

Cadbury eggs sound so good, and they're displayed everywhere! And caramel apples....

The day I got my Nance appliance put it, the first thing I tried to eat was sushi. I've got this incredibly complicated appliance in my mouth. I've seen pictures online, but not a single one comes close to what this thing looks like. It's like a basket in the roof of my mouth.

Anyway, I was starving! I bit into this piece of sushi (some kind of roll) and 80% of it disappeared into the roof of my mouth. Gone. Beyond my reach. It took 15 minutes to finish that one piece. Highly depressing. It actually wasn't too sore until a day or too later. Since then food doesn't seem quite as appealing.

But now I'm thinking lasagne. I should be able to eat that once the surgeon clears me, right? Lasagne. Mmmmm. With that crumbly cheese.... and sauce... and noodles.... and maybe some spinach mixed in....

Okay, so all the mention of Cadbury Eggs made me run out and get one... Yes I ate it too!!! I had to cut it up in a little peices and suck on it. But it was totally worth it!!!! Of course as soon as I finished I felt totally guilty and brushed, flossed, rinsed for literally 10 minutes... But it was totally worth it!!!

Now I'm craving pizza, and earlier I was craving a hard shell taco... lol... Both big no no's lol... And big owies...
