I have very small upper laterals, and although my ortho says it won't be a problem getting my results without any bonding, my dentist thinks otherwise. I have been obsessively looking at others' laterals now, and everyone else seems to have nice, normal-sized laterals. Is there anyone else out there that has smaller laterals that would be willing to share some pics?
None of the pics I currently have really show how small they are, I will take some side view pics tonight...
if it makes you feel any better mine are larger than they should be, my left one in particular...i've been having some reshaping done on that so by the end i hope they'll look the same. i'd love to have nice little dainty ones! the grass is always greener...
if nearing the end of your treatment you're really unhappy with them then you could always get caps or veneers but you prob wont need to consider that, once everything is aligned and in the right place i bet your smile will look great
Hey there nawners - I hear you on the small laterals! My upper left lateral is teeny - the bracket covers pretty much the entire tooth surface - and the right one is smaller than would be ideal too. At my first consultation it was mentioned that I might consider getting at least the left one bonded at the end of treatment, but I don't need to decide that for now. To be honest, I think I'll probably get it done to get the "perfect" result, but it's hard to know for sure at this early stage. Plus I don't know much about costs/upkeep involved with bonding.
I did post some pictures right at the beginning of my thread in the Our Braces Stories section, you can see my Little Dude there. Although pre-braces he was hidden right round the back and all twisted - now he's almost in line and straightening up day by day
p.s. I've actually noticed quite a few (non-braced) people with small laterals, I don't think they're that uncommon don't worry!
Natalie: LOL yes, the grass is always greener! FG: Thanks! I checked your pics out, and it is nice to see I'm not the only one. Jennie: THANK YOU! I think I have a bit of both of those types, actually... They're quite thin, although not pointy, and they're short. I tried taking some pics just now but I'm no good at it. I'll need my bf to help me out....
Thanks again everyone!!
I have very small laterals too. My Damon 3 bracket covers almost the whole thing...I think it's more common that you might think lol. When I got my braces put on they asked me if I am getting bonding done when the braces come off. I'm not sure yet though, depends on my results.
I've got one wee lateral, the other never existed. In the images you will see the before where my teeth came forward to close the gap. we opened that back up and put in a "flipper" I will have an implant done and the peg lateral will be bonded.

Here is my progress shot, you can see in the first photo, my lateral, then the gap opening, and the flipper.
Naduah: Thanks! And I think like you, I will have to wait for my final result to decide if I need the little ones bonded. Eober: Thank you!!! My laterals look very similar to your single wee one. Is your 'flipper' removable? THAT is how I want my laterals to look. To look even with the rest of my teeth. Although, your progress is amazing! If mine look as nice as yours, I would be very pleased!
I have small laterals too! But once the gaps closed up I think they look better. With gaps on each side it just drew even more attention to the fact they are so teeny.

The flipper is attached to the archwire with a bracket/wiretie/lig. When I get my adjustments it does come out. Oh and that horrid little gap appears! How quickly you forget it's there. My ortho said that the implant will look pretty much just like the flipper and they will bond my peg to match. I can tell you I'm very excited.
