Newbie saying hello...

#1 Post by bec1989 »

Hi all
I'm new, name's Becky. Just signed up after searching the net for info regarding underbite surgery.
I was reading other people's stories of having surgery on here, that have kinda scared me a bit, mainly the pain of recovery and the unbelievable amount of swelling, wasn't expecting it.

my underbite hasnt really partic bothered me in life, tho in my opinion its worse than anyone else's iv seen on here as its also a cross bite too.

My top teeth lean in slightly which makes the gap appear bigger.
I was originally just thinking of getting a brace to sort them out but my mum has been going on about how her underbite has really affected her in life and that if she was younger she'd definitely get surgery, though she's only in her 40s so I think she should... she seems to want it more than me and it could also give me an idea about it...

Can't partic tell i have the bite issue on these but just to introduce myself anyway, here's pictures of me...not smiling showing my teeth, which is really the only thing that bothers me, look miserable on pics!

Hi Becky,

I just joined, too, but after I got my braces. I don't have any experience with underbite surgery but I did have surgery to deal with an impacted canine that never descended. It wasn't the most comfortable week of my life, but now that it's over and my tooth seems to be moving into position I am delighted I had it done.

Perhaps you can convince your mum to get surgery and/or braces with you and you can support each other through this! I would expect it's never too late to have it done, especially if it's something that has always bothered her.

Good luck and hope to see you on the forum.

Thanks to each of you for the replies.

My underbite doesn't really bother me to such an extent that I'd really want to undergo surgery. I hate needles so to go through something so drastic as surgery would really freak me out.
If my bite bothered me more than maybe I would.

But yeah meryaten. Nahky (hope that's right) in particular scared me, the amount his face swelled up and also how he described how he felt whilst in recovery, saying he was in hell, sounded so uncomfortable and horrible. Don't think I could cope. I'll get my mum to have a look around here though
