A double safety-pin opener thingy!

After two springs failed to push my molar back far enough to make room for Wonky Tooth, my ortho's assistant installed one of her "fancy loop wires -- this should do the trick!"
Which means, of course, that if this doesn't work, we're resorting to pliers and a crowbar.
As you can see, the wire is currently bowed. As it attempts to straighten out, it should push those two teeth far enough apart that we can finally go after my tipped-in biscuspid. She gave it a name, but for the life of me I can't remember the actual terminology.
Has anyone seen/had one of these dohickeys before?

Oh, and as you can see, I've got one elastic to keep my teeth aligned so that the molar goes back while the other tooth doesn't move forward and mess up everything else.
Elastics suck.
