I wonder, has anyone ever refused to have teeth extracted, or refused to wear a certain appliance. Has there been things the ortho wanted you to do that you just said, I'm not really comfortable doing that :?:

I didn't refuse to extract but did strongly imply I did not want to do any extractions at all if I did not absoutly have to. 7 months in and he hasn't mentioned it yet.

I did refuse surgery. Now that I am nearing the end of my treatment my ortho keeps reminding me that I will still have a slight overbite and imperfect bite because of this decision, but I reassure him that if my teeth were too perfect they wouldn't match the rest of me! I am very happy with how my teeth/bite are turning out without surgery...even though my ortho probablly wishes they were perfect. But in the end, it is my life and my teeth and he has accepted that.

I informed my ortho that I don't want any extractions. I got my treatmentr plan and there were not mentioned any extractions :)

I said no to having another tooth extracted to make my bite perfect. I'd already had 4 removed and that was quite a traumatic experience, also i didnt want my treatment prolonged by having more extractions.

I also requested that i loose the headgear by the time i started uni which my ortho seemed to accept.

I got braces as a recommendation from my TMJ doctor, who told me under absolutely no circumstances should I let them extract any teeth. Most of the Ortho's I visited with said I would need extrations. So I searched until I found an Ortho who would do my treatment without extractions. So, I guess that is like refusing treatment?

Currently, I'm giving clear 'no' signals to jaw surgery if my teeth/bite come out look a fair bit better in the end. Jaw surgery is, in my eyes, a final resort not completely necessary. My father has my jaw, and he looks fine and can still eat well.

I'm my ortho's completely willing victim to get my fangs fixed though.
