extractions..damons..wires

so i have been on damons for a year and had 4 bicuspids extracted on wed.. i saw the ortho on fri and he put wires on..and it hurts coz i guess he put a thicker wire in.. my question is..will this be the only method of filling the gaps in damon braces or will i wear powerchains and stuff too? and also, anyone know the terminology of wires.. he put in a 14/25.. or thats what he told his assistant..
