I don't even have the desire to TRY .I absolutely hate cleaning my brackets so anything that might possibly make that more difficult is a no no. I was never big on gum anyway cause I have a tongue ring and gum tends to wrap around it as well.

I had mine pierced for 14 years and I had to practice to be able to chew gum again. After a few times wrapping it around the barbell, I got used to it and it never even touched the thing again
.
Now lifesavers.. no matter how many times I had one, as soon as it melted enough for the hole to go over the bead, it did. Every. Single. Time. LOL!
Well

I have been scared to try chewing gum. I just got my braces on a week ago, but the pain is gone now so maybe I will give it another week or two and then give it a try.

I'm not a big gum chewer but since quitting smoking I do resort to gum a bit more. I have found Trident a good brand. It comes in several nice flavours and doesn't stick to anything it shouldn't.
Chewing is good for stimulating blood flow to the gums as well.

I have always been a big fan of chewing gum. For the 6 months I had my expander I couldn't chew it. So, once my expander was history I went right back to the gum. My Class III elastics take a little of the enjoyment out of it, but I still love the gum.
Definitely stick (excuse the pun) to the sugarless gum. I love the Cinnamon Orbit.
I have heard that the extra saliva we produce when chewing gum also helps keep the mouth clean.

I am a big gum chewer and I usually only chew Extra peppermint (i love mint gum especially peppermint. I only chew sugarless gum. I have been good and have avoided it as I hate standing in front of the mirror cleaning my teeth and brackets. I have been without gum since the thought of standing there longer scares me. But seeing this thread has given me something. The thought of going a week without chewing gum is depressing let along a couple of years! I might have to try freedent. I think I will wait since I just received braces and have the "softer" archwires in place.
Has anyone tried any of the Extra brand gums?

I am not a gum chewer as is so this shouldn't be a problem. I have no desire and infact I was told by the ortho I have some clicking in my jaw and by chewing things like gum, candy or hard things like bagels or hard meat (which I don't eat) will cause more pain the older I get.
I plan on being a good girl and doing everything the ortho says so I can get these things off faster. I plan on being on my best behavior. My brother didn't listen to the ortho and she always yelled at him that if he didn't wise up he'd have his braces on forever lol.

I haven't had a problem chewing gum. Occasionally, they stick to a bracket or two. But its not really a problem. I chew gum literally every single day. When I'm out in public I'm seen always chewing gum. I chew gum in school for the whole day. Which is 6 hours. I love freedent

I've been chewing all types of gum since about a week after I first got braces. I've never had a problem, and I've never lost a bracket.
