Braces put on today (May 14)

#1 Post by elektro »

Well they're on! I got my braces put on today and really the whole procedure was faster and less painful than I thought. The thing that hurt the most was having the thing in my mouth to suck out all the saliva, it kept poking into the back of my mouth. :/

But anyway, the braces themselves don't feel that uncomfortable :) The orthodontist actually said that the tension on my archwires is relatively light since I'm closing gaps in my teeth, rather than moving crowded teeth (which requires more tension, he said). Anyway here's a photo of my teeth (sorry for the bad quality, was taken on a camera phone) after having braces for about 10 hours so far:

Here's hoping that middle gap closes up soon :)

My teeth hurt! :( I can hardly bite together without feeling pain in my teeth. :/ I haven't been able to chew anything really, except for some soft mashed potato on my molars. Ah well, hopefully I'll become used to the soreness. Before too long. :/

The soreness should pass in a few days. If it gets too much then some OTC pain relief should help.

Good luck with it all :D

Hey, we have the same brace day!!!!! My teeth hurt too. But only when I chew on the front ones. Or forget and bite down hard. I can't wait until that part is overwith. I was more worried about the lip chaffing and that didn't turn out to be that bad.

Alright, it's only been 3 and a bit days since I got them on, but just tonight I have begun to feel the upper left molar bracket rubbing against the inside of my mouth more than it was the past couple of days. Does this mean that my teeth are already beginning to shift slighty?

I think it's just your cheeks realizing that these things are here for a while. Drink some more water and rinse with warm salt water. Don't forget to start packing on the wax!

Congrats and welcome to the Club :-). Trust me, it gets better; I was sore for quite a while and had to eat only soft foods. Hang tough. The brackets will rub whenever they feel like; some wax will stop that action; it is like night and day. I doubt your teeth have moved any but u never know; more like your mouth getting used to it all.

That's exactly what happened to me -- my front teeth hurt something terrible when I tried to bite down! I chewed with my back teeth for the first few days, and now a week afterwards I can chew normally agan. So hang in there!

I went nuts today....I ate chips, cream cheese filled wontons and chinese food galore. I ate ALOT and ate as normal as I could. Everyday is better and better. I even bit into stuff with my front teeth. My mouth is getting used to this no problem at all. There has been major movement too. I have a new gap and my bite feels really wierd.

It prolly took me about a good 5 days before the pain settled and it took almost 2 weeks before I felt like eating anything, including chips.

I agree with drinking fluids, salt rinses and wax. I have gotten so good with wax that I do not even need a mirror to locate the offending bracket. Hang in there!

I've spent the past couple of days working out how to apply wax effectively. It was tricky at first but I'm getting the hang of it :) The braces have been on for nearly a week now. The soreness has eased considerably and now I'm trying to not look at my teeth so much to see if they've moved - after all, a watched pot never boils! :)

22 days now and going strong :) I'm still trying hard not to look, hoping that when I eventually do I will see the centre gap beginning to close :)
