Hi I'm new to the board and I have a rather embarassing situation.Trying to find anyone that has ever been thru this. I'm 57 years old I have all my front teeth but back teeth have been out for years(wear partials) aon recent trip to dentist we discussed some cosmetic reconstruction and during that conversation he suggested I see a orthodontist. With much hesitation (mostly embarassament due to no back teeth) I went orthodontist took x rays models ect. and I have a follow up in June. I'm just not sure what they would anchor the wires to since I don't have back teeth? Has anyone ever heard of this? I will be considering implants for the back. Also how common is jaw surgery? and is it covered by medical insurance?

Thanks for any info
Sharon

Sharon, you took the first steps, which is a great thing! :D Don't be embarassed about your teeth or hesitant into having some work done. The dentists and orthodontists are there to take care of our needs. They see dozens of patients every day.

Hi Sharon
I'm just not sure what they would anchor the wires to since I don't have back teeth?
I wouldn't worry too much about this. I (and lots of others here) have had lots and lots of movement on my bottom arch which up until recently was only wired up as far as the second premolar. I think the wires and brackets do most of the work.

Good luck
