WAX

#1 Post by Chiwawamom »

Ok...I thought this was wierd. My left side is WAY more sensative then my right. I never have to put wax on the right side only the left. Is that wierd or what? :?: Is my right cheek tougher then my left?

I have the exact same problem. Wax only on the left side on my uppers. I believe for me, this is because the very back molar is a little tipped to the side which is causing that tooth to have more contact with the inside of my mouth than all the others. I've had these huge sores next to that tipped tooth in the back for a while (more than 2 weeks maybe and they don't seem to be going away) and I don't feel the wax is helping. :-(( I hope the wax is at least helping in your case. :)

I have been keeping the wax on that back bracket at all times. If I feel me cheek with my tounge it feels like there is a hole. Could it be the arch wire poking out the back. That is where it wont seem to heal and if I take the wax off it gets bad again right away. How often can you have your ortho snip excess wire? Could I have wire sticking out so soon? My teeth have moved quite a bit. I just can't belive this new gap I have. Thats the tooth that was hurting the most too.

I have NEVER had to once put wax on my left side, but my right side is almost always waxed. I too thought it was odd. But for some reason one side bothers me way more!

Chiwawa, wire can start sticking out the back quite quickly. Your ortho will expect people to make comfort visits for this purpose. It will only take him a second to snip that wire and you will really appreciate the relief, so give him a call.

Wax isn't much help with poking wires and they can cause really nasty sores (take it from one who knows lol)

I stuck my finger back there to feel it and I do feel a little wire poke.....THAT SUCKERS SHARP! No wonder. So I'll be calling Monday morning. The wax covers it now as the wire is pretty short. So short I don't even know how they would cut it...but I can feel it.

How much wax is too much? I have had my braces for two weeks tomorrow, and so far I have gone through 6!!! little wax cases. The bracket edges feel really sharp against the insides of my mouth, so pretty much 90% of the time all my brackets are waxed except the 8 incisors. Am I being too much of a baby? Should I lay off the wax until a sore appears so that my mouth would eventually get used to the sharp edges of the brackets? LOL, this is going to be an expensive ordeal if I go through about 3 wax packets per week for two years...

Personally I figured that if my mouth toughened up then I'd have an easier time of it. What I did was leave the wax off until my mouth started to feel just a little chafed, then I'd put some wax on to give the skin a rest. Then a day or so later I'd leave it off again and so on.

Keeping hydrated by drinking plenty of water will stop the brackets rubbing you so much. If you do start to get a sore spot, then rinsing your mouth with warm salt water or hydrogen peroxide will help heal it.

The only place I ever use wax now is right at the very back on my uppers, because my treatment entails HAVING to have a piece of archwire sticking out of the bracket. :( I can't have it clipped because it has to be there, and it pokes me sometimes.

My personal view is that wearing wax 24/7 is counterproductive. If you let the skin gradually toughen up a wee bit, it'll be easier and save you money too.

Me too

I was a wax fiend but set out several periods of time where I didn't wear wax on purpose and tried to see how long I could go w/o it.
I am on 2 weeks w/o wax because I stay hydrated. Lots and lots of water.
I dont drink soda anymore. After alcohol I have 2 glasses of water for every one glass of alcohol. If I go swimming I take ice water with me.

You get the idea. I drink other stuff but usually follow with water. You wont believe how much it helps.

The very first week after my b-day there was wax everywhere- on every single tooth of my mouth, but as time was passing by, day by day the was went off first from one tooth, then from other two, and by the second week i wore no wax and i haven`t used it any more. I`ve never had any more sores on my cheeks

This weekend I went up north to visit my family for Memorial day and I drank tons of water but it wasn't enough. By Sat afternoon I had wax everywhere. My poor cheeks. As soon as I got back to Phoenix I could remove the wax without drama.
