Working at ortho's office

Because I broke a bracket the same day as my appt (after of course) I had an appt this morning to fix it. I was early and had a chance to chat with the ortho receptionist. She said that I wouldn't need to go to school to be the ortho asst, I would go to different offices to train and then come back and work there at that office permanently.
She also told me that Dr. Kamal is leaving in June and they are hiring 2 new orthos and expanding to 6 days instead of 2. So I turned in my completed app but know nothing right now. The girl didn't know how much it paid but she made $7.50 hr. That is ridiculous as I am used to twice that amount per hour. There is no way on the planet that I could afford my bills on that. Hopefully the assts make more.

Guys, don`t you think it`s rediculous how much they take for their job and how poor they pay to their assistents???
I`ve also visited occasionally some provider`s websites, because i was googling some info about those orthodontic mini-screws because i need one to be placed... i was shoked about how cheap all this stuff is for them, so they charge... like... 100000% to us and see each of us 1/month and sometimes less. Do you really think it`s fair?? I don`t , but we don`t have other choise, but to pay.

I am happy to pay my Doctors and Dentists because I'm paying for their skill and knowledge. It's not like they became a specialist overnight without having to study. Whatever fees I incur while getting treatment, I believe is for them to help me with something I would not be able to do without all that schooling, regardless of age.

I worked for an orthodontist as his assistant back in the mid 80's. I had no prior training and it was all on the job. I assisted him chairside and then progressed into working on patients myself. Removing wires, removing cement after molar bands were put on, put the wires in and secured them with "o" rings, cementing brackets to the teeth, taking impressions etc, instructing on brace care and headgear. I worked for about 1 1/2 and learned everything on the job. It was the best training and it saved me thousands of dollars going to school for it.

Diito Meryaten - I was about to post the exact same argument!

Because I work in healthcare, and my dad is a physician, I definitely understand the need to charge higher amounts, and I get frustrated sometimes at some complaints.

Thank you for your well wishes. I have heard nothing but it is the memorial day weekend so I am not worried. I will be sure to keep you all posted.

I did receive another job offer on thursday. I accepted because frankly I am tired of interviewing. I may be able to work for my ortho part time though.
