for tose of you with clear/ceramic braces...
did you have a choice when it came to archwires???
Did you have a choice for either silver, gold or white coated? Or was there even any other option besides silver?

A while back I had gold arch wires instead of the silver ones. I have silver now but ortho says I can go back to gold provided they have the size required to do the job. He offers gold braces as well but the gold wires come in limited sizes and therefore can't be changed as often as the silver wires. I liked the look of gold wires at the time but I'll stick with the silver ones for now.
Braces on 9/01/2006- Braces off 4/14/08
I have ceramic uppers and lowers and both archwires are coated "white" to match my teeth and brackets. I don't recall being offered many options. The main question I was asked was do I want metal or "clear". I opted for the clear and the ortho did the rest

Thanks for responding!
This is all new to me....so archwires range in different sizes? So I guess the stronger the archwire, the more pressure on the teeth right. So they start you off with a certain size archwire, then at each adjustment the archwires get bigger and stronger to produce more movement, right???
Also, what is the purpose of heat activated wires?

I didn't get an option besides regular silver looking wires. It's really not that bad where I wish I had white/tooth colored wires.

Same, although I like the silver. I've heard that having the white wire can actully draw more attention to your teeth, coz people can see there something there (if they're close), its not obvious its a brace so they stare more to try to see what it is!!Miss Smiley wrote:I didn't get an option besides regular silver looking wires. thanks for the links. I am learning quite a bit about braces in general as well as my own. I had no questions when I was first braced but you've all help with the questions I have now.

I wear the InOvation C braces which are quite clear. My archwire is silver, and has been all the way so far through treatment. I wanted the white archwire and inquired about it, but was told that within no time the white starts to chip off and you're left with a blotchy white and silver wire running through your brackets. They said it would look so much worse than just the regular silver wire.
(The receptionist told me first hand because she went through it herself.)
