Yes, I know, it is 3am EST...Braced in the morning!!!

#1 Post by RahRahLuv »

Hi guys! I am venting a little I guess in a good way. I am so excited!! I get my braces 8am EST and I can’t wait (obviously, I can’t sleep either) This is going to be such a wonderful journey and I am looking forward to the challenge. I don’t care how much pain (we will see tomorrow, lol) I am in, just knowing that my teeth will finally be straight, and I will be able to chew properly (something I have learned since all my reading). I am getting ceramic uppers and metal lowers. Hopefully I will not have to get teeth extracted, my ortho said let’s wait a few months and see.
I will update in the afternoon!!!

Hey Gang! I am back from my Ortho appt, and there is only one way to describe how I feel :

The appt went great, I was hyper though the whole thing. They found it funny that I was so excited. I got my brackets on in the back with the exception of one tooth. (Mental note, if they say leave the spacer alone, leave it alone!!) I now have a metal spacer in one of my back teeth and will go back in a week.
Everyone could not understand my logic; I have clear on the top, metal on the bottom, and aqua blue bands! I love it. For some reason the tech though I would want to hide my braces. Not me!
I went to work like a dummy and tried to eat some mashed up chicken. Ok not so bright, but I was starving! I ended up eating a milkshake for lunch  all my coworkers were in awe of them and told me their horror storied from 20 years ago. I am used to it by now!
Now it is about 7pm my time and I have spent my 1st day in braces. I am not in pain at all, but it feels like my gums are itching and my teeth are aching. Weird. But no pain, just a lot of pressure.
One complaint though, they didn’t really go over much with me at the end, it was like they expected me to know it all cause I was grown. I got a LOT of knowledge from this site so I wasn’t nervous.
I have a strange feeling I am going to wake up tomorrow not feeling so well in the mouth….

Congratulations on the start of your journey!! I've been braced for one week tomorrow and was hyper and excited just like you. It's weird that after you are braced you're kinda like "uh, what happens next??!?!?!?!" There is so much anxiety associated with deciding to get braces that the process seems overly simple after that. I guess braces are pretty straight forward..you go in for your appointments and watch your teeth get straighter in the meantime. How do your spacers feel? I have to go back for those in a few weeks.

aaahhh the itching!! lol
sashafeelgood, the spacers don’t feel too great, but they are only temp, so I wouldn’t worry about them too much.
I have to admit, I am going to look up foods and stuff, I had no idea this was actually the hard part.
Meryaten, thanks for the info on the itching, no one seems to mention this, just pain. I was getting worried lol!

Oh yeah, the itchy gums.

I notice it most directly behind my upper centrals. I guess that makes sense since overjet correction has been a main goal.

Makes sense I suppose; like a healing cut, etc.

Drives me mad though .

Another fellow Carolinian braced!! Congrats on the b-day and good luck with your treatment. I have about a month to go before being braced, only because I have to get a lower bicuspid removed first. Enjoy the wonderful month and 4 of July. Raleigh is a busy city, but it is also a beautiful place :)

Crolina Home Now

I agree I like it here a lot. My Ortho reminds me of like the cool grandpa that you couldn’t wait to see at Thanksgiving lol
I am from San Diego, so when I decided to make this home, I figured get my lifelong dream of fixing the ole choppers fixed was time to manifest!!
I think I am going to read the blogs and start one, this is like the most exciting thing I have ever done in life (besides the birth of my son :D )

Everyone at the job says I look “cuteâ€
