Herbst Appliance

#1 Post by gramsinbraces »

I had my upper expander removed this week, recieved it in Dec., it did a great job. This week I had this Herbst appliance put in. It was way to big for me, the screws were huge and protruded out from my mouth. I was very upset with this look, when I opened my mouth these huge screws would pop out and when I shut my mouth it looked like I had a mouth gaurd. Myhusband was upset with the look also. I called ortho in the morning so that we could talk about this, he said it would get better when the muscle relaxed. I just couldn't handle these huge screws and the stretched look of my mouth, so he removed the screws and bars and left the expander. He says he will make a removable device for me for later on. Does anyone have any idea what this might be, and what I am in for with this new appliance? The Herbst just wasn't a good fit for me and he did finally agree with me. If anyone can tell me what the next appliance is I'd like to know about it. Thanks.

I know the twin block appliance has the same function as the herbst but the twin block is removable so i'd like to suggest that will be a major possibility although im not too sure of its function in adults.

If it is the twin block its not too bad from what i can remember :)
