Clo is a braceface again ...

#1 Post by Clo »

Hi all,

yep, indeed. It happened yesterday. Since my case is so complicated, I did
expect a long talk about what will done, how and why. Nothing of that all.
The assistant polished my teeth, and the ortho glued brackets to my upper
teeth. All the way back to the sevens. A wire and some ligatures. And that
was it. Yeah, I know, this is only the first step. End of this month they will
place bone anchors and later on they will activate those. Then the serious
work begins. For now, I have to enjoy this :

My gosh, I hate my bite. I still can't believe when I look at those pics I take
how bad everything looks. Last time I was there, I was told my upper eights
would need to go. After some talk, they told me it is very well possible to do
the job without extracting. More difficult but still very well doable. Now, the
ortho again said they must be extracted. Not now, but when they will start
pulling everything backwards. Need to, needn't to, need to ... gosh I really
hate such things. Anyway, I am back on track. Hopefully the right one this
time. Oh, and also this. I told them they never gave me a time estimate to
get everything done. Well, they said, you need a complete new treatment
(so this means nothing is left of the former treatments). It will surely take 2
years.

And it begins again Clo.....I suppose extracting your top 8's would give them more space to work with. Let's hope that those bone anchors are able to do the job.

Keep us posted about how it's going. We're all rooting for you!

I really hope this time around is the last time around for you. Shucks, your teeth look great, if only that darned bite would cooperate.

Clo, when I looked at the picture in your opening post, I was wondering what issues you had ! So I searched for other posts by you and found the one where you describe your treatment history ... and I see that your jaw is not slack in the picture, you are actually biting down firmly and you have an open bite. I do have to say that your alignment is lovely and you have nicely-shaped teeth, but I understand why you are unhappy with the open bite and overjet.

You said in another post you wore class II elastics and headgear. Did that help at all ? I'm also class II. My overjet doesn't look so bad now because of crowding, but when my teeth are aligned I will have excess overjet. I also had had an open bite which was corrected when I was 19 (in 1980) with the Le Fort I osteotomy.

I wish you total success with this round of treatment !
Nov 1960: born
1973 ?: palate expander
1973-1977: braces
Aug 1981: Le Fort I, posterior impaction to correct anterior open bite and class II malocclusion
Aug 2007: braces again to correct various alignment issues and class II malocclusion

All the best for this new treatment. I hope it works out well for you.

I know it's nothing, but I still say you have some of the prettiest teeth I've ever seen..their shape and how white they are. After your problems get sorted out, you're going to have an awesome smile. I'm sure of it!

Hi all,

thanks for wishing me luck !

@ iBorg : please, this is ortho 3 and treatment 3. Not 4. But it is forgiven. I
posted here so many times about my difficult treatments that one could indeed
lose track. I plan therefor to write the whole story in the "Our Braces Stories".
I only have to find the courage and time, as I need to rewind until 2003 ...

@ SandraJones : because of a lot of issues, my ortho 2 all of sudden stopped
the treatment. The class 2 correction was not finished at all back then. So I
experienced a total relapse and now the class 2 relation is very bad again. I
want to use this picture. If you roll a ball up a hill and stop doing so before
you reach the top, the ball will return to the valley. If the ball is rolled over
the top, a new situation (equilibrium) arises. Ortho 2 never reached the top.
The bone anchors will now be used to do the job.

@ alexa : really, wow, thanks !

Hi KK,

see 1 post above yours, reply to iBorg !

Or you read part of this, or we were thinking the same thoughts even with a
complete earth globe between us. Amazing ! But to reply. Yes, I will do this.
It will be documented with lots of pics still available. Brace yourself for a ...
very complicated story !

I look forward to that too, Clo. So far it's not been a positive journey for you, but it's certainly been an interesting one. Hopefully, it will have a happy ending though.

I'm a little late posting as I have been out of town and then in a bus accident. All okay though!

Clo,
Hope this treatment may be the last and you may get the bite you deserve. Your teeth are absolutely lovely by the way!

Good luck and keep us posted! :]

Your brace buddy!
