Almost finished in braces, will I get them off next time?

#1 Post by spbabe »

This is my first post, so hello everybody! I have been in braces for exactly two years, and my adventure as a metal mouth is finally coming to an end.

I have totally straight and perfect teeth now, with the exception of a small gap inbetween my left canine and my second tooth. My ortho said if I wear my finishing elastics correctly I'll get impressions for my retainer at my next appointment, and that next appointment is on Friday!

Unfortunately, I slacked off big time on wearing the elastics. I only wore them at night, because I was embarassed at the goofy way I had to wear them. I'm guessing that the elastics were also supposed to close up my gap. The gap closed up a lot as opposed to the way it was before.

I'm curious as to what I can do to help the gap close up faster, or if you think it's closed enough already.

Here is a link to the picture of the gap, I couldn't figure out how to post it directly on here:

If anybody can help, it'd be greatly appreciated! :D

Well, your teeth look quite nice to me, but I'm for achieving the best result possible! Check with your ortho; if the small gap is the only issue remaining, maybe the elastics alone would suffice and you could go ahead with the debonding. If not, what's one more month or so if you can achieve the results you've been after all along?

That said, if your bite is OK it presumably will be up to you -- are you satisifed with the aesthetics?
