I was given a 12-15 month time frame for my braces. I have two upper front teeth that are pushed in and very crooked. I have no bite problems and my bottom teeth were a bit crooked but not bad. It's been 12 months and although they have moved some, the upper teeth are still pretty crooked. I asked my orthodontist about it and he says they are slow moving teeth and we may need to go 16 months instead of 12-15. At my next appt. they may put a "coil" on one of the teeth and have that one move first....? They said they should move pretty fast then.

Anyone have an experience like this? I know I need to be patient but I thought by now they'd be pretty straight. I want these things out of my mouth now!

Forgot to mention that I have ceramic on top and metal on the bottom. My bottom teeth are straight now!

Thanks, I know it's not that bad. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I thought after a year that they would be straight and the rest of the time would just be "setting". I guess I was wrong...

The coil should move it pretty quickly. My daughter had a coil put on to seperate some teeth to bring them forward. I was shocked tosee the teeth had made enough space within a week! My teeth moved much,much slower than my daughter but they have aligned very well in about 15 months.

I sympathize; my teeth are slow-moving, also. I was originally told I'd have jaw surgery after 1 year in braces, and then I'd be in braces another year after the surgery. My teeth were never crooked at all - just not where they will need to be once my jaws are aligned properly. I didn't have the surgery in August as originally expected because my teeth did not move as quickly as expected - and there is no new surgery date set yet - it will be sometime next year instead. - at least 5 months later than originally planned. (my ticker below is optimistically hopeful - based on "best case scenario," not a commitment from the surgeon or orthodontist!). I'm not completely surprised at the delay, I'd heard so many others with the same experience, that I was more or less prepared for an extra 6 months or so. I'm just hoping that's all it ends up being. But I can relate to how you feel. If patience wasn't one of our virtues at the beginning of this process, we all end up with a little of it by the end!

It'll be worth it!

Thanks everyone! Does anyone know anything about coils? Are they painful? Ugly? :P
