to the newly braced with metal on top: try light blue ligs

I know that there's already a lig thread but it's so gigantic I decided against adding to it with this specialized experience I've had.
I had my braces installed on Aug 15, metal top and bottom. I got violet ligs. For the first couple of weeks, when I looked at my teeth in the mirror I was freaked out by how dark my teeth looked, like I had huge chunks of chocolate smeared all over them !
At my first adjustment on Sep 12 I switched to light blue ligs. It's amazing how they obliterate a lot of the darkness of the bracket even though they really aren't covering up much of it ! I think I will continue to wear this color, or other light colors.
SO for those of you who are newly braced and also going through the shock of seeing dark all over your teeth, try the light colored ligs, I would recommend light blue in particular.
Btw, I can't speak about staining, I'm not an adventurous eater though I have had dark fruits and tomato sauces with no apparent change in lig color.

I started out with light blue ligs and agree with everything you say - you may get more adventurous once you're more used to your braces, but regardless, light blue ligs are always a good choice in my opinion

My husband says if the Cubs make it to the playoffs I'm getting blue and red ligs.

What would be worse is if the Bears make it that far ... navy and orange ???? Ewwwww !

When I first got my braces they asked me what lig color I wanted and I told them I would stay clear. So now that you all have me thinking I would like to go pink for Breast Cancer awareness in October. So do I just at the next appointment say I want pink ligs? Or do I let them know ahead of time? Is there an extra charge? How do they actually work? I know these are stupid questions.

Wired, my ortho's office has a box of colours on hand so I just nominate what I want on the day. I've not been charged extra for colour.
If you want a particular colour on the day - and be certain that it's available - by all means call up beforehand and ask for it.
And I've seen light blue on silver brackets - it looks great.

I've done
light blue and loved them; had no problems with staining at all and they did not fade.
No charge at my Ortho's office for different colors, except that they don't have brown at that office and I can't go to the other office to get it sadly.
I have lime green now, which are horrible as they faded after a week.

I'm getting my braces put on next wednesday and I was going to ask
for light blue or light pink. So, what I am reading here is light blue is the
way to go right? great! I have also seen light green which look pretty cool.

I have ceramics but I think the fuschia (upper) and hot pink (lower)made my teeth look really white. I think it's because they're the blue-red family.

I love the sparkley indigo I have right now, makes my teeth look very white compared to the light pink I had last adjustment!

I liked the pinks better than the turquoise. The turquoise made my teeth look a smidge yellow, had me brushing like a maniac thinking my teeth were staining from not brushing well enough.

i just got mine... ooo.... 3 hours ago. i should have asked for the box to see the colors, but i was hoping for light blue b/c of this thread! but the ortho didn't name it off so i went with bright blue. ha, i'm not sure if that was wise or not cause you can definitely see it. but, it's kind of fun. i wish i could change out colors more often. whoever said pink for breast awareness month... that's an awesome suggestion!

Haha, I wish I could change my colors more often, too! At each adjustment I carefully weigh my options, knowing that I'm stuck with it for 8 more weeks, lol. The girls at the ortho are excellent resources for advice, they have their favorites, and they've seen them all!

sandrajones, I got color for the first time last week at my adjustment.
I got blue and orange (me and hubby are big time chicago bears fans...well hubby is a die hard fan).
The blue and orange looks fine. I went in for my adjustment with my bears jersey and bears mini back pack. The assistant must've read my mind, because before I could get the words blue and orange outta my mouth, she suggested it....lol. The ortho loved it, he's a bears fan too, lol.
I'm a SOX fan, there's no way I'd get red and blue lig's....even though hubby is a die hard cubs fan! LOL!!!
I do miss my tooth colored lig's, I just hate that they stain slightly. At my next adjustment, I think i'll go for a smoke gray colored ligature....but this time, I just had to rep. for the chicago bears!!! LOL!!!

ROFL Dimples ! I decided to be a Sox fan when I moved to Chicago, but when I met my now-husband I switched.

Maybe I shouldn't have ! Of course, if I were still a Sox fan I'm sure he'd be making the most of the current situation and I'd be getting daily ribbings. Ever done black and white ligs ????
