Chewing is Impossible!!!!!

#1 Post by Chiwawamom »

Ok.....so my lowers were added yesterday and I cannot bite down....This is the MOST frustrating thing....my uppers actaully hit my lower brackets and I cannot eat. My molars are NO were near touching..... I either swallow it whole or eat mush. ????? I didnt get that build up stuff they add to the molars that I hear some people get....I just have to deal with it until my lowers "lower" enough...AHHHHHHH Im gonna go insane...I had it SOOOOOO good with just upper braces. :x

Awww...I'm sorry you're having trouble with your braces. When I first had mine, I couldn't chew with my front teeth at all. And out of nowhere, I was grinding my teeth. It hurt so bad. These feelings you're having with your braces will eventually go away when you get use to your lowers. Then maybe it will suck a little less. As for eating, maybe you should try things you don't have to chew like soup, yogert, fat free pudding, sugar free jello etc. You don't have to eat things that require chewing.

I agree with you about the top braces! Ive had my top braces on for over a year and the bottoms for a few months. I can't bite down at all because mmy bite is now completely open! My back top molars hit the bottom bracket also. My molars are sore so chewing is out of the question. You know the only way I can see the bright side? I thank God everyday that I have a tongue! My tongue has taken over and it mushes my food in the roof of my mouth and does the "chewing" for me. I mainly swallow my food and don't bother to chew it. Sure when people look at me my mouth appears to be chewing but it's not lol. Sometimes I think I will go insane.I think it's torture. " Braces have come a long way!" "With the new braces you will have less pain and discomfort" were phrases that I read in all the Orthodontist Advertisements lol.I want things to settle down. I miss my teeth biting down! I know things will settle down and I will be thrilled with the results. For now ,it just sucks. I know my family is tired of seeing me in pain all the time because my adjustments have been every 4 weeks for a long time now.I have about 7 days of pain and then one or teeth are sore. Then just when the soreness is all gone ,I have an appt! lol
I totally sympathize and understand the madness you are going through.Somehow we all manage and have days that are painfree and actually forget that are teeth are behind bars...

I actually went thru something similar after my second adjustment. the ortho added brackets to my 3rd molars and my upper molars hit the bottom metal bracket which prevented me from closing my teeth and biting properly. I asked the tech about it and she said that one day I will notice that my bite will become "normal". And about 3 weeks later she was right. I will say hang in there and it will get better. But if you are truly worried about it, you should contact your ortho
