Good luck with airport security. I've always wondered if my braces will set off the alarms! :D

I may be joining the headgear crowd soon. Making up my mind. Wanna convince me it's ok? Please?

I Flew to Norfolk, VA and no problem at all... even though I didn't have headgear...

Now since my motorcycle accident I had a metal rod placed in my leg so I'm sure I'll set those alarms off and I'm sure they will hastle me like crazy when I tell them bit me it's the metal in my leg... My friend went through airport security with a metal plate in his body from an accident and airport security gave him a hell of a time getting in.

Hope that doesn't happen to me.

You think that's bad... I set the alarms off at Charles de Gaulle airport because I was wearing a really pretty metal belt which was made out of about 16 little 2 inch eagles linked together. I explained in my best franglais (ie rubbish French accompanied with LOTS of batting of eyelashes) that it must be my belt that was causing the problem, so security insisted I take it off. Unfortunately, it was laced through the belt loops on my trousers and each little eagle had to pass through each of the 8 loops... Their sharp little beaks, then their sharp little claws caught on each one. There was an enormous queue gathering behind me huffing and puffing and I was getting more and more hot and bothered  After about five minutes, I said "I give up, just let me take my trousers off, it'll be quicker". Funnily enough after that threat, they waved me through....

lol I'm sure this topic is about to turn into a story board of airport security issues so here is another to add onto it.

"My brother travels alot throught the airports cause he's in the NAVY and likes to come home when he's on leave... Well one time he came through security did everything he normally does, "When shoes didn't have to come off!" walked through the alarm went off they did a search of his persons found nothing... went through again nothing so they made him take his pants off and put on a paper gown walked through went off again... Finally my brother thought about his boots... his boots for some odd reason had metal running through the soles of his boots so he took that off went through and "NOTHING" so he was set free after a brief embarassment."

I have traveled quite a bit and have never encountered any problems with THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR. THIS IS SPAM PLEASE REPORT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR.. I don't think that they're sensitive enough to trigger the alarm.

My bro is a para with leg braces and in a chair. He says flying is awful since increased security. He doesn't mind the search, but he says the officials have no idea what they're looking at or for or how to handle a disabled person.

safe travels this holiday season to everybody out there.

chef says no need to dry out the turkey...165-170 is very safe...use a thermometer.

my 5 year old son swallowed a button battery when we were living in China. We had to fly home to Australia to get it surgically removed. I was really worried the battery in his tummy would set off the alarms in Shanghai airport so I took his xrays showing the battery with me just in case!

(It didn't by the way)

from chef: love stuffing...make sure all ingredients are cooked (oysters, bacon, sausage etc, and mixture is cooled before stuffing bird. Stuff bird just before roasting. Stuffing should read 160 F on thermometer. Better not to stuff big birds unless you like dry meat.

chef will also make a casserole of extra stuffing, drizzled with drippings and broth and covered while cooking. If you choose not to stuff the bird, do place aromatics (1/2'd lemmons, garlic cloves, sage leaves in cavity.

chef's stuffing has fresh made bread crumbs from crusty salao bread, celerey, onion, brown and wild rice leftovers, sage sausage, pecans, thyme sage and broth. The casserole stuffing will be oyster, mushroom and bacon, with the other things. chef is off Thanksgiving this year but does Christmas. We are cooking for a few friends and family who otherwise would be alone.

Haven't flow with my braces yet but my shoes set of the alarms last time. As the previous poster says. Apparently this isn't uncomment. Basically the security men said 'oh it must be your shoes' and let me through!

Complete diversion, my elderly mother had to take her shoes off when flying into America and was utterly baffled. She was travelling with my very large father who didn't have to show his shoes. But he could have hidden a Kalashnikov in his boots!

Anyway, I can't wait to fly again. Hopefully my braces will set off the bells and I can give them a big smile...

Stupid Human tricks have left me with quite a bit of metal in my body. (6)plates, (29)screws, and (4)rods. Also have steel wire holding my thumb together after fusion, and still there. I have a card I carry with me so anytime I pass through a metal detector, I give it to them, and keep walking. It's better than a Handicap Tag for your car......
