Excess wire

Since my last adjustment the back of my mouth has been full of sores, my ortho has left too much excess wire on the back at the end of the braces.
I've tried to ignore it for about 5 weeks but I can't stand it anymore.
I tried cutting it myself with scissors, clippers, etc but it didn't work and it made my mouth bleed and fingers bleed (when trying to pull it back etc).
I'm going to ring a dentist..they should be able to cut it right?
My ortho is 2 hrs away but a dentist will do it right?
It's painful

Wow! You lasted 5 weeks with a pokey wire! Kudos to you!! Good job!! So far I've been lucky with my braces, I've got my 1st adjustment coming up in 15 days and have not gotten any pokey wires, I want to keep it that way!! I agree with Karen ask your dentist, to see if they can do it, if not call your ortho and ask if you can go and get it clipped! Good Luck!

Now that is nasty! Happened to me, I've "suffered" for about a week, because I have been very busy at work and simply couldn't spare a couple of hours to get to my ortho.. but now that I think about it, if this happens again, somehow, I'll definitely not wait 1 week to have everything fixed.. too painfull and disturbing.. so, don't wait any longer (5 weeks.. very brave!!!), go have the wires clipped! Cheers and good luck!

Longest i've gone with a pokey wire is 3 days-i couldn't survive much longer, i hate ulcers

I would have gone back the next day but i give it a few days to check that it is a pokey wire and not my mouth not being used to a new wire, but generally my mouth knows when its wrong! Good luck with your two hour trip to the ortho

it'll be worth it

Longest i've been with a pokey wire was a weekend, since that incident, if i was able to get in there i went. It will eat your cheek alive!!! Don't clip it yourself though, i've had mine migrate to one side and if you snip it you will cause some alignment issues well possibly.

Ugh, horrible.
Can you try bending it back around the tooth yourself?

I had a pokey wire for a few days and I went to my dentist who eventually managed to cut it although she didn't really have anything designed for cutting wire.

i had lots of poking wires....if i didnt go back to ge them cut i just put wax on the everyday. for the sores, i got some brace relief gel from dentakit and it seems to numb them very well(ive been getting canker sores for 13 years or so so im used to canker sores)
depending on when your next appointment is i would either try to get it cut...or get lots of wax
