QUAD HELIX PROBLEM
hello all its me back again. I have had a quad helix fitted since April, i got my front ceramic brace fitted just on top in October and its only now the quad helix is bothering me. its is embedded into the roof of my mouth and causing great pain. Im afraid that my ortho wont be able to get it back out. He wants to leave it there for the duration of my treatment which coudl be anything up to 2 years so im terrified that when the time comes he wont be able to remove it as i heard that a persons gums had grown over the fittings.

If it's causing you that much pain GG, then you need to get it looked at asap and if necessary adjusted, or removed and replaced. Don't try and put up with it if it's that bad. The roof of your mouth will just swell up more and get even more painful.
KatK, a member on this board, had the same trouble twice with her Pendulum appliance and she had to go and get it removed and refitted.

What is a quad helix? I assume the ortho knows what he is doing otherwise he would not recommend it for the life of ur treatment, but I could be wrong...hello all its me back again. Yikes that doesn't sound good. I had a quad-helix for over 2 years and it never even touched the roof of my mouth never mind actually digging into it. Has your ortho seen it since it has been cutting into the roof of your mouth or is this something that has developed since you last saw him/her? If it is a recent development then they will probably fix it at your next appointment but if it is something your ortho knows about then you really need to push them to change it.
No, that is not normal, and you should not be in pain like that. Call your doctor. Remember that you are paying for his/her service and they expect to be called when a problem arises, or even just to answer questions. You are the boss - you hired them. If you doctor wants you to have a quad helix in for the durations of treatment you will either have this one adjusted, or be fitted for a new one - being in great pain is not an option.
