why wires around brackets

Hi,

One quick question out of curiousity and i did do a search for this one and couldnt find anything. The orthodontist started wrapping wires around 4 teeth at once, that is around my last molar all the way to the canine. I have no gaps there so i thought it might be for gap closing. Can someone shed some light as to why they need to do that and what the purpose the wires twisting together all the adjacent teeth do? I cant figure it out?

my friend has those

Those are wire ties. My friend has those. They are just like the elastic kind except they do surround each tooth. They do not stain!!! :) Some orthodontists like to use these instead.

They have a wide variety of use I'm assuming cause I have wireties along with ligitures over them... I'm still not sure what they are doing to my mouth but nothing really has moved on the upper jaw where I have both.

I had something similar done in my mouth I think. They wrapped very thin wire in a figure eight fashion going from bracket to bracket from my first molars to canine. This was done with the archwire off. After that, they put in an archwire and used regular o-rings to engage the brackets. They called the figure eight wire "lace ties" and explained that it causes a group of teeth to behave as a single unit.

Oddd... I have an archwire, the thin wire *lace tie* all left there with ligitures... It's something I'll have to ask my ortho next time I see him...

I will try to post a picture tomorrow!

Layered:
Archwire going through all brackets
Wire tie around *ALL* brackets up to the first molars
Individual Ligatures over all *NO POWERCHAINS*

the doc took two really thin wire ties and started from one side and twisted them around the brackets as he moved to the next one and did the same until it went from bracket to bracket starting at the first molar and ending at the other side at the first molar.

This is only done to the upper jaw.

Lower jaw has a slightly different color then the one I chose but that is also individuale ligitures. The wire tie is silver...

I did research and all I found about lacebacks is they are used to stop the teeth from tipping while they are in the final alignment and leveling! So I assume if that's correct I should be close to the end of treatment.
