Incredibly Frustrated

#1 Post by ibraceface »

Just need to vent to people who understand... as I am starting to feel like my friends and family are tired of hearing about my daily braces updates! I guess my bicuspid moving into place isnt nearly as exciting to them... hah..

But... as for my frustration.... I feel like everytime I go to the ortho... I have to go back 1-2 times in the following week to get things "just right". Usually having to do with incredibly pokey wires.. (I have linguals) Does everyone go through this? Will this get better with time? I just am tired of always going back. They are always super nice and fix everything that I ask... and always tell me to be verbal because they simply can't feel what I feel going on in my mouth!

However, my biggest frustration... I dont even know how to technically describe it. I had an impacted canine exposed. It came down. However, now they are trying to slide it over into it's correct positsion. They looped a wire around it to push it over. (Hope this makes sense). Anyway, the looped wire keeps sliding right off my tooth! I went back today and they pushed it back up there.. and told me I could push it back up myself. Without suprise, it slid right off not even 3 hours later. I tried pushing it back up... but, #1 with it being lingual and #2 with it being an incredibly tender tooth... I CANT DO IT!!! I sat infront of the mirror for an hour trying.

I simply think they should find another way to move it over? Any suggestions? I just feel like the most annoying/nagging patient because I feel like I am ALWAYS CALLING UP THERE!

Hey - I don't know about you but I pay my ortho too much money to go around hurting for days/weeks after an appt. I've gone back to have them adjust wires, smooth edges off bands, fix 2 broken arch wires. I feel so much less guilty when I see the pix on his wall of the staff vacation to Hawaii he funded!!!
Life is to short to live with preventable pain!
Cheers!

Hi,

Like Meryaten said, right after an appointment, take some time to check everything.
The longer you have braces, the more experienced you will become to know where
to look and feel. I sometimes have this issue also about a pokey wire. Not because
of movement, but because my ortho sometimes forgets to clip it off as short as
possible (behind the last bracket). I think I can "see" what is happening with that
wire sliding off your canine. They could place a dot of glue or composite on one
side of that tooth, so that this looped wire is kinda laying above this dot. They could
also use a button to prevent this sliding off.

Wow, that sounds miserable having to go back all the time. I definitely agree though that you are paying a lot of money, and you shouldn't feel guilty about going back to have them fix that wire, even if it is frequently. They should make sure that it stays put, the suggestions that Clo and Meryaten posed sound great. Good luck, I hope you get a permanent solution soon.

Ditto. Go back as many times as you need and don't feel bad at all for asking them to try something different!

Hi guys!!

Thanks for all the encouragment! I called back and they were very gracious and told me to come in tomorrow and they'd put some glue on the tooth to keep it from slipping! Yay. My canine is COMPLETELY EXPOSED and already has a button on it. Now they're just trying to push it to its correct location! Maybe I'll have my gap filled by my birthday! Hah! I can only hope!
