Mid-line elastics......
Hi all, so had an adjustment, and yet another elastic added, so I'm up to 3 now, got a mid-line elastice put in, just wondering when you'd start to notice anything, just kinda find it hard to get adjusted to this one, speacially at night, my jaw or I am fighting with the elastic to keep my jaw in my old position and when I relax at night I can't seem to not think about it relaxing into the new position..............

I had an elastic for 2 months to correct my midline. I had a break for a month and the ortho told me just a couple days ago that I may not need the elastics to correct the midline anymore. But within those two months of me wearing my elastics all day and night only changing them out to brush and sometimes when eating, my midline had seemed to over correct.

This is complete speculation, as I'm no ortho, but I think they tend to over-correct these problems intentionally so the teeth drift back into the correct position once the bands are removed. When I had my upper jaw widened in preparation for surgery, the ortho bent my molars WAY outward, much farther than they needed to be. Then once the bands were removed, my teeth eventually drifted on their own back to the new correct position.
Separate midline question... I had surgery nearly 2 months ago to correct an underbite. I love the results however my midline is now slightly off. I imagine at my next ortho adjustment, he will start making an effort to correct this. (At least I hope he does).
What sort of treatment should I expect for correcting such a dilema? Where does the band go, what teeth does it connect to? Would you be willing to post a photo of your corrective band? I'm just curious how he will likely go about correcting my problem. Thanks.

Karl,
I had 2 elastics going from lower canine to opposite upper canine for a month post-op, to correct my midline. It worked while it was on, but it has since drifted off again. I am going to bring it up with my ortho again in 2 weeks, as hopefully now that im at 5 months post-op it will stay put!
