Seventh bracket pop-off and counting!

#1 Post by TsuKata »

Okay, so far, I've had seven brackets pop off of my teeth at various times. Most recently, I had two pop off in the past week. For the first one, it was just removed and I have had a naked tooth for a couple of days (Naked tooth! It has felt so illicit!). Now, I've had another one pop off a few teeth over.

Brackets that I've had pop off in order of when they came off (left means my left, etc.):
Bottom left first molar (Sept 07, right after I got the braces put on)
Bottom right first molar (Sept 07, right after I got the braces put on)
Upper right central incisor (Oct 07)
Upper right lateral incisor (Oct 07, during adjustment)
Bottom right canine (Jan 08, during adjustment)
Bottom left canine (this past Tuesday)
Bottom right first bicuspid (today)

Is this a new record? :) How many brackets have come off for you?

Oh, and for the record, I have not been eating caramels or anything else that is likely to yank at my brackets. My dentist suspects either that I have particularly non-sticky teeth or that my initial bonding had a bad glue run.
Braces Type: Powerprox ("Six Month" Braces), worn 9/27/2007 through 5/12/2008

I was going to say none but I forgot the one that popped off on first day.. That's dues to contact though... I've now got that space held till the future but no bracket ( ortho did initially want to give me band but left it in end till my other teeth move after which bracket should be ok)

Yours sound a lot.. Have you ever had your teeth whitened?

I have had 10 come off. And not due to eating the forbidden foods (however, I think my ortho was starting to think I was lying to him  ). All the brackets have been on the bottom except for one on the top that popped off during an adjustment.

Only once has the same bracket been involved and my ortho finally admitted that it was possible there was moisture on the teeth when they were curing the glue.

Nothing has popped off in the last few months so I am keeping my fingers crossed!

I had 7 - all on the bottom and all within the first 10 days. I am glad my orthos office is 5 minutes away. Obviously the initial bonding didn't go well!!!

HELP LOOSE BRACKET!!!

#9 Post by Naduah82 »

I have Damon 3's on my top and one of the top molar brackets just came loose! I think it's still a little glued on b/c it's not moving around but if I touch it it moves. This is NOT good, it's Satuday and my ortho isn't open until Monday and even then I can't call until Monday so i'm kinda freaking out. Any advise?

When I had upper ceramics, I had them about once every two to three weeks. After an appointment in August when two of the five ceramics popped off I basically said that's it let's do metal. Since then, not one loose bracket!

I wore braces (this time) for 1294 days or 3 years, 6 months and 17 days.
But who's counting?

Naduah - nothing to worry about! Can you hold the bracket in place with a blob of wax? It'll stop it moving around and chafing your cheeks till you get your bracket reglued.

I've had one come off, that was the first day my ceramic uppers were put on. I have had my wire come unattached from the brackets twice now though. The first time it was just the one, on Friday it was four! Yeah, starting to think maybe its the ceramics that are to blame so was interested to read iBorg's post. Will have to see how things go with my metal lowers, hmmm....

I had trouble at first with popping ceramic brackets - my two veneers kept rejecting them (upper bicuspids) and lower unveneered bicuspid. However, after some serious industrial strength glueing they have remained stuck fast.
I had to have all my brackets taken off yesterday and repositioned. They all came off without too much trouble  and they are all still in place, so far...

I've lost one so far.... eating hard candy
I just waited for my next appointment because this happened right before Christmas when the office was closed; I'm sure I probably could have demanded he see me but it wasn't really bothering me and why should I ruin his vacation? Or that of one of his technicians (because I'm almost positive he wouldn't have done it himself!) :)

Another bracket kept popping open (Damon) every time I brushed but instead of replacing it they just put a metal "donut" around it to keep it shut.

I'm about 5 months in...

oh wow.

I have had braces for 8.5 months now and no broken brackets for me! yay!! I don't eat anything that was on that list and I am really careful about biting down and I also don't drink soda's or other beverages that could erode away the glue. I hope I don't lose one. I get 3 - after 3 I have to start paying individually to fix them so I hope I don't lose one!

My cousin had braces for almost 3 years and never lost one. I guess it all depends on your teeth, the type of braces, and how much glue they use to secure them. I guess?! who knows.
